Beaker needs CCL surgery! Suggestions greatly appreciated!
« on: February 15, 2012, 11:39 am »
Hey all,

My baby boy, Beaker, had a limp for a bit so we took him to EAAC last night.  Dr. Jordan (I <3 her!) has determined that my boy has torn his CCL and needs surgery.... the sooner, the better.   :([

For those of you who know, I work at LifeLine in College Park, an awesome non-profit, low-cost spay/neuter clinic.  However, it is a non-profit which means that my paycheck isn't going to cover his necessary $2500 surgery at GVS or another area specialist.

So, who has experienced CCL surgery with their dog?  Could you offer recommendations of low-cost specialists that I could get in touch with, or clinics that may at least offer me a payment plan option?  Obviously, I'm sort of freaking out since I know Beaker is in pain and I want to get this done sooner than later.

Also, if anyone has a large dog crate that I could borrow (Beaker is an 80lb American Bulldog), we gave his away when we moved down here assuming we wouldn't need it anymore.  Another  :([

I know that between now and surgery time, the calmer he is, the better.  A crate is the only thing that's going to prevent him from playing with Go Sox's dogs!

All of your help will be so greatly appreciated!  You can e.mail me at MorganJStanley@gmail.com or text me at 202-276-4670 (I don't answer my phone if I don't know who is calling, so texting is safe) if you have ideas, thoughts, anything!

Thank you!   <3

I texted you about a crate.
Or maybe they're happy and content, living their little donut lives until the monstrous humans come along to rip their doughy flesh open with their teeth, sucking up their jelly innards.

Have you already been out to GVS? I haven't been there in a few years, but I thought they offered a payment plan.

GVS offers Care Credit. I used it for Lulu's back surgery (holy hell, 7.5 years ago!!) and got a 0% interest rate for some period of time - at least 6 months, I think (I paid it off a month later so I don't recall, it might have been as long as 12 months).

Sucks!! Sorry you guys are dealing with this. Poor baby Beaks!

I would also add that in addition to GVS there is Dr Corse, who is fantastic and works out of Decatur at NVS http://www.nvsatlanta.com/. You might also consider UGA - their vet school has a good reputation, and while its a bit of a hike, they are usually less expensive.

Also, if you go the UGA route, at least many years ago (approx. 10 yrs) they also offered some type of Care Credit that you could apply for. So, I would assume that they still have that option available.

<:)~  Thanks, all!  I'm going to touch base with Dr. Ellard (EAAC & LifeLine on Thursdays) tomorrow when she is here and see who she recommends.  I definitely appreciate all of the help!

Everyone here told me about Care Credit so I signed us up for that already.  It won't cover the whole cost, but some is definitely better than none!

Morglord, sorry about beaker.  I know how tough it is to watch your pup suffer.  Hugs from my pack to you and Beaks.  And I would also say Dr. corse has been great.
