About 8:15 this morning, this cat was attacked by two dogs in collars on the vacant property next to us. Next door neighbor came and got us, and we got her in a crate (with a lot of effort and distress). She's injured, and we're working on getting her to an emergency vet. We're on Braeburn Circle.
Is this your cat? She'd probably love to see a friendly face right now. Not that we're not friendly...
UPDATE: She's on her way to Village Vet in Decatur.

The closest is Decatur Village Vets for emergency.  Briarcliff is open on sundays but i dont know what time.
Yes, I agree, with that I knew someone close that smoked and went to chewing tobacca. Used a spit can which was yuck, and then the door of his car.~Denise

are these the two dogs?
I don't have kids.  I've never figured out what they're for.

Leah just said the pit had been in a neighbors' back yard for a couple days so probably not but I am wondering if it's the OTHER two black short haired collared dogs that have been running loose in this area (which are for sure not Leah's two).

Thank you for taking her to the vet, I don't know who she belongs to, but I will pass the word.

I saw a cat dead in the road yesterday on Clifton and assumed it had been hit by a car. I hope it wasn't mauled as well. (Also, I'm sorry I couldn't move it, but I was walking Ted.)

Also, to clarify, the pit had gotten into my garbage, and THREE other strays were partaking.  I only saw the tan and black one, but Stevan said two others took off. So it could have been any of them.  Yeah, it's been a hectic day here with all the dogs.

I hate that we have to walk our dogs with a broom handle and canine pepper spray in this neighborhood but it's the unfortunate reality.

Thank you for taking her to Village Vet--I'm sure they take very good care of her.

Thanks for taking care of the kitty. I'm assuming this is an un-owned cat since there is no collar (unless it was lost in the fight).

not necessarily. I went thru about 200$ worth of collars and tags before I realized mine wouldn't keep them on more than a few days =(

Aside, someone on my facebook offered to possibly foster kitty if she comes thru whatever vet work she had to have and the owner still hasn't been found.

Same thing here--please don't assume.  Both my kitties were feline Houdinis with collars and tags; I think the older one taught the younger one how to get free of them.  They lasted no longer than 48 hours, and I finally gave up.  It's also completely possible and even likely that if she had one it was lost in the fight.  Most cat collars have a "breakaway" section to prevent choking, and it really doesn't take much pressure for it to give.  And kudos to your Facebook friend, I'm glad to know she's got a place to go if her owner isn't found.

My cat also will not wear a collar. I would hope that if anything like this ever happened to her (god forbid) that someone would help. Keep us posted on the kittie's progress.

Not to derail the thread, but can someone shed some light on why it's socially acceptable to have an outdoor cat in the city? I'm sure there are cases where someone has taken in an outdoor cat that simply cannot be kept inside, but why would one purposefully choose to allow their cat to become an outdoor cat?

Every time I see one of these posts about a cat having to be scraped off a road, or lost, or attacked by a dog or bird of prey (or rat poison), I'd like to think it was a stray.

I am fairly certain that we have had this discussion on this board before and people feel strongly one way or another.

We have indoor/outdoor cats.  They like to go out during the day and come in at night.  We have 3 rescues now.  One of them was found in the woods in NC and would not tolerate being inside full time.  I have 3 children who are incapable of closing a door 100 percent of the time (even if it is left pulled to and not latched, the cats can and do open it) and sometimes we like to have the doors open for a cross breeze, fresh air, etc.  It would be a logistical nightmare to try to make sure the cats never got out.  Plus, they like to be outside.  The cats are fixed, chipped, current on their shots and they stay pretty close to home.
