There have been coyotes reported around here before, but it turns out they were wild dogs. See here:

Not that this wasn't a coyote. Animal Control will respond to wild dogs, but not coyotes.
Pretty sure they will. That's the impression they give on the automated message.

Coyotes??

Next time you drink a homebrew, thank Jimmy Carter, who on October 14, 1978 signed H.R.1337 legalizing homebrewing in the United States.

Could this be the wispy collie like creature I keep seeing around Walthall/Esten/Weatherby/Wylie? I can't seem to even get near it and I see it all the time when I walk my CrazyDog™.

@Jeffrey, is this a stray? (shit, I am used to fb, I keep wanting to "like" and use @).  Let me know if it is, I'll try to catch it. Is it remotely friendly? Aggressive? And no, based on The roommate's further calls, no help available from anywhere without money for a private trapper. I don't really want to hurt it, but "displacing wildlife" in the middle of an urban area that has been that way for almost 100 years seems unlikely. Seems more like a danger of a rabid animal? :(~

This was from a friend who tried getting AC's assistance with what were thought to be coyotes. She is in Fulton so that may explain it.

Didn't want to get too involved in this but.....I'm almost 100% certain that this will send you to AWARE (all volunteer/donation based) and typically, unless the animal is injured/orphaned, they try educate the public that coyotes have become rather urban in certain areas and trapping them will result in an immediate reduction of the population; however, it will more than likely you will see an increase in the population until it balances out as this action has created a seeming increase in "new" food sources.  Almost always if you decide that there is no other action other than to trap them, it will most likely come out of your own/neighborhood's pocket.  And I'm sure most everyone has heard how understaffed/under-budgeted all of the local animal controls are  :'(

After I wrote this last night, I walked my pup. Two houses away from yours, I spotted this dog, and I am sure it is a dog........ It is very slight in build, maybe 30 pounds, the size of a small collie and all blonde/reddish in color(maybe the size of a fox). In the more than a dozen times I have seen this pup, I have yet to get within 40 feet of it. I cannot tell if he/she even has a collar. I am almost sure it isn't anyone's pet as I have seen it across a rather large area that now encompasses your street.

Do you use Facebook via your Blackberry?   I think that's the only interface where @ doesn't provide a tag in a status.
Or maybe they're happy and content, living their little donut lives until the monstrous humans come along to rip their doughy flesh open with their teeth, sucking up their jelly innards.

I don't think @ works on iPhone either. In fact I think it was you I was trying to tag, HFranks.

Please let us know who said this if you find out.

Get the name of the asshat who said use antifreeze. There is no "unofficially" telling you this. You are not a reporter doing an interview. If the words come out of his mouth while on the state phone, from his office, it's official.

Yes there are coyotes as far as Dunwoody. I caught one Sunday night while trying to trap a dog over by the Cox Media building on Peachtree Dunwoody. Coyotes will usually leave you alone and are looking for prey that is their size or smaller. They are damn cute and will damn sure rip your finger or hand off if you get to close. If you encounter just one, you are okay with scaring it....it's when they are in a pack that they will attack animals larger than them.

Any dog trap with cat food or chicken will trap them. However once you trap it, you have to get rid of it.

This is why your incredibly good looking husband carries.  There is an Old Atlanta Prison Farm hike this Saturday and after seeing the amount of Coyote scat there last time I am damn sure not going back there unarmed.
A coyote doesn't want a close encounter with you any more than you wanna see a coyote... the problems start when humans do NOTHING to scare them off and then they become comfortable around humans.

Likewise, I carry when I'm strolling through the woods on my family's land in west Ga. However, I usually carry a shotgun loaded with buckshot instead of a handgun. Btw, I was out there Saturday and saw quite a bit of coyote scat in the dense woods.
