Trick or treating this Halloween
« on: October 25, 2011, 12:41 pm »
Does anyone know what the designated day for trick or treating is in EAV? Haven't seen anything so far this year about it. I'm assuming Monday, but don't want to get hit unexpectedly on Sunday!

Saturday in the Village for EAV-o-Ween, and Monday in general (as far as I know).

I would prefer it to be on Saturday, personally.

I don't care what day it's on...as long as it isn't on a Friday.  Halloween Fridays = a near perfect traffic storm that could only be made worse by the addition of snow flurries.

Thanks for the info, guys. Personally, I'm glad to hear it seems to be staying on actual Halloween. After the 5th or 6th hour of straggling trick or treaters, I'm sorry to say it does get old and wearisome instead of fun.

I know it might be much more convenient for some parents to keep it on the weekend. But, man, you just get that costume on (or retouched) when you come home from work/school and out you go. That's just how it's done.  :)

Gotta cut it off at some point. Halloween is the night of the year where I'm most pleased to have a locking fence in my front yard.

Gotta agree (well, except for his "creating jobs" stuff - don't know, don't care). Rushing home, with the absolute nightmare that traffic is on Halloween -- beginning at 2pm -- throwing food down their gullets, and all that stuff. I might feel differently if I just opened a bag and sat on my porch.

Kids have started a petition at school(s) to get Tuesday off so they can gorge on candy and sleep in. Principal told them if they get something like 3,300 signatures (there are about 300 kids in the school), they'll do it. I assume they winked when they said that.

From gpna's FB Page:

"Grant Park always celebrates Halloween on Halloween (Monday night 10.31.11). We do not change the date. Please be prepared for children trick-or-treating as early as 6pm. Turn off your porch light if you do not wish to participate. Get 8 to 10 bags of candy if you are welcoming trick-or-treaters! Have fun and be safe!"

Depends on where you're coming from, but yeah. When I was working in Alpharetta, the masses started leaving around 2 or 2:30 (everyone trying to get the jump and/or make sure they didn't get stuck). Coming from the south now, from the airport, I'd say it starts getting unusually thick around 3pm.

Younger kids do usually start trick or treating around 4 PM.

Because they get off school, eat their snackies, then go out.

I think the earlier poster was saying traffic started at 2pm not the actual TandT.

Suck it up, people.
