Car Break-ins - Cecilia/Brannen Area
« on: January 03, 2012, 02:27 pm »
For any of you that live around Cecilia Dr. or Brannen, the kudzu triangle area - our neighbors have had a number of overnight break-ins lately (the ones I know about were between 12/29 and 12/31).   Just cars so far that I'm aware of, but it's been a good reminder for our household to be more alert - I'm too likely to be dismissive of suspicious activity as just neighborhood weirdness.  So just be on the lookout for lingering vehicles, keep valuables out of site, etc. (all the obvious precautions - but stuff I've been lax about myself before).

Just curious:   Are they breaking windows now or were the cars left open??

I'm not sure about all the cars, but I know some windows were smashed - on the steep hill part of Cecilia Dr. some neighbors had been parking in the vacant church lot driveway, and there's busted glass all over the pavement there now.  The only specific things I know stolen were GPS units.

My friend on cecillia just had an attempt at a auto brake in.  Not sure what they were after as nothing was visable, but there were weird "burn" marks on paint above her passanger window.  As though they heated up a slim jim to get past the weather stripping.  Iron ically enough, this car just replaced another car that had been stolen from her driveway but was recovered.  I'm in Gresham Park and we have wheel theives.  Mind your lug nuts as they will take one off and then leave and do that till they get them all off.
