Accountant Recommendations?
« on: January 30, 2012, 08:54 am »
I've been using an accountant to do our taxes ever since we bought our house, mainly due to various tax credits and expenses from small side-businesses that have never really taken off.  Last year, I was pretty disappointed with my accountant both in service and price, and am interested in finding a new one.  Anyone have any recommendations, and a rough estimate for what it would cost to get my taxes done this year (Married, filing jointly, with a handful of write-offs for various expenses)

Melissa Preston - http://www.prestoncpa.com/

actually picked her up from the buzz.  we've used her the last 2 years and were happy with the results.  She got us way more than we were getting by ourselves.  I think it runs around $250.

They aren't in East Atlanta, but I highly recommend Jay and Michelle Botwinick in Grant Park. They do both my personal and business taxes and do a great job. They are also very involved in the local Southeast Atlanta community.

So, I met with Jay Botwinick last night, and both wanted to thank Mongo for the recommendation, and give a strong recommendation of my own.

Jay looked at my return from last year, pointed out several things that my prior accountant had done wrong that could potentially get me in trouble, looked at the documents I brought, and basically told me that paying him to do my taxes would be a waste of money, and that I could handle it myself pretty easily.  I didn't have to pay him a thing.  Then he offered to review my return after I prepare it for a box of donuts.

Jay was honest to his own detriment and reassuring.  If I was in a situation where I needed an accountant (which apparently I'm not anymore), I'd definitely use him in the future.

Glad to be of service.  and yeah, that sounds exactly like something that Jay would do...
