I'm sure someone will correct me if this is wrong but my understanding is Joe's' coffee is Batdorf & Bronson too, so, same coffee both places.
intelligentsia

Joe's is?  I stand corrected.

Yup.  We were the first in the South East to carry them.  Have been for 7 years.   BTW, thank you to  everyone that continues to frequent our shop.   I know everyone has their opinions/choices and that you can't make everyone happy so as much as it sucks hearing people say they don't like Joe's for whatever reasons it is always nice to hear that people get what we are doing.  Our loyal customers make  it so much easier to bear that we have put everything we own personally and professionally on the line for the community that we have called home for over 16 years.   <3

While I'm sure the owners of Hodgepodge are perfectly nice people, my favorite EAV businesses are those run by friends. <3

Went by there this afternoon and got a late coffee! Yummy. Hubby got two red velvet cupcakes that were also delish. I finally saw the pit bull that is on a short run leash at the used car lot. His name is Bruiser. What a sweetheart. He looks like he has an eye infection though.   he just wagged his tail like mad at us. I kinda wanted to steal him.......

Possibly cherry eye?  If so, nothing to worry about, more of just a cosmetic issue.

I wrote a presumably eloquent and lengthy post about this and then the forum time out deleted it when I hit "reply." Damnit to Hell! Here's the short and nasty version:

Rather than cherry pick the differences between Joe's and HP in some pee contest--let's realize that they're different. I've been to HP a few times now. What Joe's does--it does well--no one can compete with that back patio in the spring and summer, and it's in the heart of it all. The experience is very streamlined. I don't think HP is trying to compete with them. The feeling is completely different--new and a little lost--but definitely different. I think they get that but need some help from us to tell them where they should go maybe?

Joe's can't possibly fulfill all of EAV's coffee needs--we're a diverse community that is constantly growing. Rather than write this HP place off--let's take the opportunity to demand what we think the community is lacking--we've said it here already--it has A LOT of space. So let's fill it with what we want!

We should keep drinking coffee at Joe's but let's drink it at HP too when we want something outside the experience Joe's offers.

When I'm less annoyed with losing my long post I'll write my thoughts about the place again.

I just joined today--although I've been watching this forum for a few weeks now. eavbuzz is a bit hidden so I'm not sure if the owners know about it--maybe we should tell them when we go in? I only found out about it because I asked a friend who owned what buildings in eav and he directed me here. eavbuzz is definitely an awesome resource. I'm excited to take part!

Nice first post, Darius. Welcome to the Buzz. Anyone who is willing to toss thoughts and ideas around, about the neighborhood or anything really, will appreciate the Buzz quite a bit. It's a wonderful resource and is made up of many great people.

True on Hodgepodge. It sounds like it could be a very different experience from Joe's and I think (and hope) people will take advantage of that.

Two thumbs up for Hodgepodge.  I stopped in this morning for the first time and am an immediate fan.  This is my new coffee shop instead of daily stops at Starbucks.

I am from a small town in middle Georgia and grew up with good Southern cooking.  The Hodgepodge biscuits rival my mom's, and no one has met that high standard before.  Today's choices are cheddar chive, four cheese jalapeno, sausage cheddar, and bacon cheddar.  They were just coming out of the oven, so I had no choice but to eat one on the spot.

Hopefully, the cupcakes are as good as the biscuits.  I may have to return later today to find out.

Starbucks is the only place I could find strong coffee.  Until now.

I know a lot of people talk about how Starbucks' brew tastes "burnt". But obviously a lot of people like how it tastes. Is that what you're talking about? "Strong" is a tough thing to define just in itself. What comes out of a brew "strength" wise is a factor of the darkness of the roast, the ratio of grounds to water and how quickly the water moves through the grounds.

Is it a particular roast of Hodgepodge's you like? Or how they're brewing across different roasts?

Tried to go there last night just before 9 and they were closed, so we went to OMG Cup & Cakes for our cupcake fix. They were still open (barely) but we got in just in time and got 50% off with Scoutmob/Foursquare, so 6 cakes for $8.75, great deal!

I swung through Hodgepodge on Thursday en route to a meeting. The space is nice, and parking was easy, something I really enjoy. The coffee was great, but the real winner was the cheddar jalapeno biscuit I had, my only regret is that they only had 1! The staff was super friendly, and definitely had the welcoming, neighborly vibe that I like.

Joe's is my regular place when I need some time out of the home office, and rarely a week goes by without at least an hour in there, and I doubt that will change. On the other hand, Hodgepodge is a little more convenient for me if I'm heading north up Moreland, so it's a win/win. I like having options, and competition will help both business provide an even higher level of service.

Welcome to the hood, Hodgepodge!

Hi Guys!

I'm Krystle Rodriguez, one of the owners of Hodgepodge Coffeehouse and Gallery.

I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate you welcoming us into your neighborhood!

Our goal is to not only be a business, but an asset to the community. We're open to all suggestions, and if we can physically and monetarily arrange it, we'll certainly try :)

Thanks again!
