New Madison mural
« on: April 12, 2011, 07:56 pm »
Anyone else notice the new mural going up on the side of the Madison by the florist? Looks like an advert for Newcastle beer.

Saw them working on it while driving through the village on my way home. Didn't get a good look to see what it is going to be though.

At this point, can't we agree that a mural, even if it is for beer and non-permitted, is better than a wall full of bad tags? At least the beer company will keep it clean.

I can agree with that. I don't like that the Madison wall has apparently become the spot for "clever" thoughts in tag form of late.

Losing both legs is better than losing both arms, I suppose.  But I do what I can to avoid either situation.  I haven't got time to decide which illegal painting is more acceptable... and I hate what Abe Asher has done to EAV enough to call it in.

Why haven't we formed a volunteer group to 'paint' Abe's house?

So are you volunteering to scrub the Madison?

Because I'll tell you this, I bet one of the reasons Abe won't even return the Arts Committees' calls about a mural on the Slush wall is this crap right here.

I don't know Abe, but everything I've ever heard about him is that he's a POS slum lord that doesn't give a mouse fart about anyone or anything in the Village, except for his steady stream of rental/leasing/billboard income....

Shame that you guys can't legally just put a cool mural on that Slush wall.  That would be super.  O0

I bet the only reason he doesn't return your calls is because you aren't offering to hand him a pile of money each month.

I'll scrub the Madison if I have to... but before I put on my coveralls, I'll try to get Abe to cover it up they way he did the PBR/Colt ads.

I learned more about Abe Asher a week ago than I wanted to know in a lifetime. I met a (formerly) homeless man who was one of Abe's employees.  Why does the city of Atlanta allow his kind of nonsense (that they clearly know all about) but pick on individual homeowners?

We can't legally put a cool mural anywhere, even with landlord blessing, without a permit. Trying to figure out how to get said permit for a mural, not a "sign" (which costs a lot of money) is yet another exercise in frustration.

And JBB, guess you just volunteered to keep the Madison free of grafitti. Thanks!
