It is indeed beautiful there by the beach Kevvy. Last time we went to visit NYC we were in the City for only a few hours and then our friends took us to Asbury Park and the boardwalk, we walked to neighboring towns. One of which is totally Victorian in style and has this amazing old Apothecary made into a diner (the food was really good, so was the local ice cream!). The town is the homeplace of annual Amish gatherings and has an octagonal meeting house in the center. It's about as far from your current location as is NYC, so it's worth the drive if you can get there. It's also interesting to see what is going on in Asbury - it's picking up and they have some great rock shows at one of the old buildings on the weekends. There's also a historic pinball place.
That's Ocean Grove, Flower Lady - just South of Asbury Park. A series of (all wood) cottages surrounding the meeting house. It is a dry town, right in the middle of all of the Jersey Shore resorts Asbury Park, Bradley Beach, Avon-by-the-Sea, Belmar... we used to drive through there and marvel at the throngs of people visiting for the various weekend events - there were many different groups that used the buildings and houses... NJ is a weird place. This should be close to Kevy's territory as he is working the Jersey Shore through Asbury Park...
Yep. I'm writing up a full roof replacement on one of those old Asbury Victorians! Luckily for me it was what we would categorize as an 'obvious replacement' because I hadn't done enough research on that one and didn't realize until I rolled up how incredibly steep and tall it was. Normally I'd have to call in a rope and harness team (and wait in this case since I hadn't planned ahead), but when it became apparent that the roof couldn't be repaired, my day was saved.
Funny you should mention pinball in Asbury, because somehow the topic came up with this Insured who then took me down to her basement to see a beautiful Woman's League Baseball themed machine she had which dated back to the 50s! Beautiful wood-railed pin in pretty good shape, it was a treat!
I also visited the famous 'Frank's Deli' in Asbury for a long working lunch. Both that and the pinball are chronicled in Facebook, if you want to join me there. I don't want to spread most of the photos I'm sharing there around for privacy reasons, so, can't post here.
I think I'm done with claims in that area, but it is a place I'd like to go spend some free time. If the pinball place is still there, I'll make it a priority!
