I haven't seen any mention of this so far, but here's a great chance to landscape with functional (e.g., edible fruit-bearing) plants and help a great cause.  We've ordered a fig tree and a nectarine tree!  |:)|

Pre-order period ends soon, so get on it if you're interested.  I heard the in-person sale (coming up on the 21st) sold out very quickly last year.

Robby Astrove will be on hand day of the sale, to give planting advice and direction: so if you have questions for him I suggest you take photos of your backyard including existing trees, slopes and be prepared to let him know which direction is North in your photos!

Hmm, so if I get the Tiftblue variety of blueberries, what other variety should I get since it says that I need to have 2-3 varieties for the best results??

Also, do I need two fig trees, or would one be sufficient for pollination?

***Please keep in mind that I am a container gardener (from what I've read, it seems these two types would do just fine in containers).  Thanks for any and all advice on this:).

Lynn, since tiftblue is a mid-late season, you have more options. Premier, Climax are good, but Alapaha is the best. Alapaha is an outstanding blueberry.

You are right to remind us that we need to consider two different types of blueberries in a yard for fruit. Rabbiteye are the best here (I do grow others as an experiment, but they are the best).

Since you are growing in containers you will have to prune your figs and blueberries heavily after fruiting. For a fig, that usually means after the 2nd fruiting of the year. Every few years you will need to remove them from pots and root prune them (they make large root systems). Make sure you acidify your container soil for blueberries. They need quite acidic soils (figs don't mind some acid too). Epsoma makes a nice azalea food, great for blueberries too!!

:( Appears their presale is over and I missed it, bummer.  Unfortunately, don't know if I'll be able to make it early Saturday and there are no times posted for it that I could find.  Anyone going over there that could pick up two blueberries for me, pretty please?

Please post info about that when it comes around, FL--after reading your post above about needing TWO blueberry bushes, we realized that the one we got in the fall needs a playmate (obviously, we didn't plan that one out very well, did we?).

Thanks for sharing about Oakhurst Garden's upcoming sale!
