Seems like they've been coming in waves all day. We were at Oakland Cemetery when we heard/saw the first batch pass over. Pretty spectacular.

The high hasn't been below 60 except for a few days this year...lots of things are getting confused about the seasons, and rightfully so.  This winter has been more of an autumn than a winter.

We really haven't had a winter yet and I'm starting to think it's not going to come this year.  I know we can have late season cold spells and even snow, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen this year.

Lots of early bloomers are budding...daffodils are up, knockout roses are growing, cherry trees are almost in bloom.

The soil temps 2 inches down are at close to 60 degrees so if we DO have a hard freeze coming down the road it will do a lot of damage.

Noticed the beginnings of blossoms on my two cherry trees this morning. At least six weeks earlier than I've ever seen.

On March 1 2010 we had a significant snow fall and ice. It ruined spring blooms. Hope we don't get a repeat.

An unusual set-up of the jets of the Arctic Oscillation, which have been blocking the cold air from descending into the North American continent and causing record freezing in Europe and Asia, has recently finally switched phases, actually.  So we are expected to start seeing some colder weather towards the middle of February.

In other weather news, the first tropical disturbance of the year has formed in the Caribbean on a rare February date.

Had daffodils blooming in the front yard this morning...

1) I don't remember me or the wife ever planting any daffodils,

2) That's got to be awfully early for daffodils to be blooming.

The Arctic Oscillation strikes!

Forecast:

Saturday LOW 24 High 48
Sunday LOW 20 High 44

Jeez Louise!  Budding and blooming things are NOT gonna like that!
This will be the coldest air in about 2 months.

They are back. They are really high up and you can barely hear them.
