Tips for growing popcorn?
« on: January 05, 2012, 09:17 pm »
I know corn is not the easiest thing to grow in Atlanta. What about popcorn? It seems such a natural for gardening with kids that I'd really like to try it at Brownwood this year. Anybody have some growing tips or know some varieties that might do well?

Yes, I agree, with that I knew someone close that smoked and went to chewing tobacca. Used a spit can which was yuck, and then the door of his car.~Denise

I have found the best success with Strawberry Popcorn seeds online from Burpee Gardens @ burpee.com. They produce lemon sized ears of beautiful red popcorn that tastes delicious.
Just be sure to plant in raised rows in full sunlight. Good luck!

I've heard good things about Strawberry Popcorn too. Raised, rows in blocks. Block plant corn for good pollination. We've grown corn very successfully here. The only issue may be some army or corn worms. A few sprays of BT through the growing season takes care of 'em before they get into the tassles. Dusting tassles works well too.
