IceHouse will not reopen for 2010

Heard last night from a former employee that they lost their beer/wine license (had been trying to get full liquor license but could not), and will not be re-opening.

I don't really have further details, but just letting y'all know that's the word on the skreet from a reliable source.

Too bad they had so many problems...I would still LOVE to see that place become a great music venue.
It would be so good for the neighborhood, people are always asking "what's up with the old Echo Lounge",
I hope someone can step in and do something with the property, it has been upgraded and has so much potential.

This is very disappointing.  I had high hopes for them. 
I miss the Echo Lounge.

Awful, just awful!  Any rumor why they lost their beer/wine license?  Or never got the full liquor license?

I'm surprised they didn;t sell the business a long time ago.  Like a year ago when they first started having trouble.

I'm not sure who would have bought it given the licensing issues. For whatever reason, the idea that they would be able to get the proper exemptions in a timely manner just never came to pass. I believe I recall Mr. Gilgor saying he was told by the city that modifying the music/liquor/distance ordinance just for EAV would be "unconstitutional".

Really sad and pathetic that a business willing to invest what they did in a club that could have brought a lot of money into EAV could just be crushed by non-thinking city policy makers.

Somebody should call Kasim - tell him this tale and see how serious he is about getting rid of these barriers for businesses that want to invest in Atlanta.

To my understanding, the building's owner is not interested in selling.
Icehouse just leased the space (pretty pricey rent from what I was told) from the owner.
