Restaurant ideas?
« on: Jul 31, '10, 04:50 pm »
We are going to dinner for birthday with my parents in a couple of weeks and my mom wants to know where i want to go.  My favorite places are Steele, Two Urban Licks, and Noche.  Any suggestions?

Iberian Pig sounds good  |:)|

Your the second person to suggest Cakes and Ale.  I'd never heard of it until then.  What kind of food do they have other than cakes?

::Edit::
I just looked at their website: http://www.cakesandalerestaurant.com/eat.html  Sounds pretty neat but I don't really see anything on the main courses that I'd be super excited about.  I like seafood (but I'm picky), duck, and beef.  What is their price range?

"Murphy's", is a special favorite, but is high priced. I don't get to go much, but I have seen people have birthday dinners there. They are excellent in there fish, bread, and dishes. And, yes,  wine shhhh! they have all kinds of that. And, to die for their dessert the Bonzo!

Wisteria is great! Rathbuns and two urban licks are also both great. Babettes cafe is good too. If Beleza is still around take a look at their menu - last time I went it had a ton of seafood, and its a cool concept.
I would never marry anyone for money, because looks are so important too.

Iberian Pig is the best out of everything I've seen posted on here, esp if you want some seafood too. I've eaten at all the places mentioned.. I definitely wouldn't go to Murphy's or Cakes&Ale.. They're both a bit too white bread for you. I thought Cakes & Ale was tasty, and I liked the concept, but it just didn't quite work for me, the little chalkboard menu with 6 choices on it.. Wisteria and Babbettes are both good, but I just think you'd like the food at the Iberian Pig the best, there's some real flavor in there.

We had great service and delicious food last night at TWO Urban Licks!!! two thumbs up! I'm still thinking about the food this morning.

Of course Wisteria is one of our most favorites, a much calmer environment compared to TWO.

TWO, Murphy's, Beleza, Steele are all former clients of mine.. I had smelling like camp fire when I'd leave TWO after shooting all night. blech. I'm sorta scarred from that.  Has the food changed since Scott left? Has anyone been to Serpas?

We hadn't been to TWO in a long time but I wanted a loud and social environment and it was great. We really loved our food, very flavorful and I didn't smell like a camp fire after leaving there. :)

We had the Flash fried oysters with creole tartar sauce and balsamic reduction ( I could have eaten a dozen of these) then, Tuna tar tare with toasted pistachios, chile sesame dressing, sweet apple, avocado on spicy chips. ( the chips were a little too bland for my taste but good and fresh.)
We also had the Bronzed Scallops on a bed of gouda grits with a smoked tomato broth, this dish was AMAZING!!!! The scallops were big and very tender, full of flavor.
 Another main dish we had was the  KC strip, grilled (with a red wine Jus)  and had a Georgia peach salad on the side with mashed potatoes. Very tasty and they cooked it perfectly.
Their Ciabatta  bread is to die for and it is served with a Chile oil and aged balsamic vinegar.   We had our meal with a nice Cristom Estate 2007  Pinot Gris, it was really delicious. The wine is  from  Oregon, I was really surprised how good it was.

I'm looking forward to going back there again, soon.  |:)|
