Missing Crosswalks
« on: January 10, 2012, 09:37 pm »
At the EACA Transportation Committee meeting earlier this evening, I was telling the other participants about my efforts to get the crosswalk at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Maynard Terrace repainted. (It's apparently been missing since the road was last repaved.) Another committee member informed me that there's supposed to be a crosswalk at Flat Shoals Avenue and Newton Avenue too (between the two branches of the offset intersection). So Buzzers, help me out: are there any other crosswalks in the neighborhood which used to exist, but are now missing?

When I moved here in 2005, there were crosswalks at nearly every Glenwood intersection and none were repainted after Glenwood was resurfaced. Pedestrian crossing signs were posted instead.

How do we get the crosswalk signs that go IN the crosswalk? We desperately need one of those at FS / Milton and another at FS / Newton. There are bus stops at those intersections, and with the proximity to the blind curves and the tendency of people to fly low on FS anyway, it's only a matter of time before someone gets splattered.

Thre used to be multiple crosswalks across Moreland Ave.  These also were not replaced when Moreland was repaved.  There were at least two in proximity to the First Iconium church.

Both Moreland and Glenwood had some changes during the times around paving, both as I understand it were put back under jurisdiction of DOT so that may well have something to do with it. Perhaps roads considered highways don't get cross walks? We surely could use crosswalks in several places, this is a residential area and walking 1/2 a mile to cross the street at a light is crazy.
