Wow...guess I saw a bunch of crap movies this year.

Also, kinda surprised to see all the noms for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.  Reviews I read said it was a turd of a movie.  Tom Hanks factor?

This is undoubtedly a first for me...

I have not seen any of those movies...not a single one...none of the actor portrayals...nothing/nada/zilch.

A big zero on the entire list, from start to finish.

Ditto on all but Rango and Rio.  I just don't really get out to the theater much anymore.  It's not as fun as it used to be...and it's way overpriced.

Lu and I saw The Descendants.  It was good, but not the greatest thing I've ever seen.
Saw Bridesmaids and was pleasantly surprised.  Not as funny as I'd been told, but a much better story than I expected.

We're doing more on-demand now, and I'm hoping to catch more of these as they come on-line.

Saw midnight in Paris on a transcontinental flight.  Finally watched bridesmaids from redbox this weekend.  Saw Puss in Boots, the Muppets, and Rio in the theater.

I have yet to see Moneyball, but want to especially after see so many noms for it. Jonah Hill. Really?  :(~

Biggest surprise in the list for me was not seeing TinTin in the animated film category. One of the best animated films I've ever seen.

Yeah...every year it seems like I get a little further removed from the Oscar experience, having seen or even heard of fewer of the nominees than the previous year.

The Artist (2011)

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2011)
The Help (2011)
Hugo (2011/II)
Midnight in Paris (2011)
Moneyball (2011)
The Tree of Life (2011)
War Horse (2011)

I'd never even HEARD of three of those (Artist, Descendants and Midnight in Paris).  Had no real interest in watching any of the remaining movies.

I honestly think we're pretty close to hitting the upper limit of ticket prices that I'm willing to pay.  As it stands, I will only pay the $10 for those films that are the better big screen experience.  I'll probably see The Hobbit in the theater.  That's the only one coming out this year that immediately comes to mind.  Maybe a couple matinees for the kids.

We just watched Beginners.  A little melancholy but I thought it was a better movie than most of the nominees.  Christopher Plummer deserves his nomination for the role.  I also thought the Descendants was meh.  George Clooney was a better actor in at least 5 other movies.  Maybe it's because he played boring well?

I try to make a point of seeing all the best picture nominees and have seen four so far, but I really don't want to pay money for the Tom Hanks thing. Not terribly interested in "Tree of Life," either.
RP, I'll likely watch "Moneyball" on VOD on Saturday night. Come on over.

Yeah, I don't get that either.  Mrs. Jake and I saw Moneyball this weekend and loved it, but Jonah Hill's character puts himself way, way into the background.  His whole delivery is very timid, with short, one-word responses.  I don't think he had more than 5 lines in a row the entire movie.

Great movie, we absolutely loved it.  Makes me want to read the book.  I just don't get the Jonah Hill nom.

Just had to look up who Jonah Hill is. Fat kid from Superbad. Got it.

I didn't know who Jonah Hill was before I saw Moneyball - I was impressed.

Agree with The Descendants as a potential Best Picture - it was beautifully done - very good story.

Disappointed not to see Young Adult anywhere on the list - I thought Patton Aswalt might be nominated for Best Supporting Actor - although technically he may have been the lead actor in the movie...
