Oscar food 2012
« on: December 27, 2011, 03:35 pm »
I'm getting smart this year and writing down potential Oscar party food as I see the movies.
"The Help" - chocolate pie
"The Descendants" - ice cream
"The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" - open-faced sandwiches
"Young Adult" - Diet Coke

Any other suggestions?

hmm...what's the basis for criteria?  something they ate in the movie, or just something that strikes you as being potentially relate-able to the movie?

Something representative of the movie, but if we can we try to pick a food that is noticeable in the movie. So, for instance, you could go with anything Hawaiian for "The Descendants," but they were always eating ice cream, so I picked that. On the other hand, you would absolutely have to have chocolate pie for "The Help."

Young Adult - I'd be more inclined to do bourbon and KFC.  Can't get hammered on DC!

Yeah, it sort of amazes me how many Oscar-nominated movies feature whiskey.

Great observation - I wouldn't have really noticed it, but there was an article in the NYT about that a few weeks ago... how it used to be beer and wine, and now it's at least a few fingers of whiskey.

I'll have to look that up. I wonder if the product placement people are good for whiskey or are the screenwriters putting it in.

No brand names mentioned - just the fact that it's the hard stuff, not wine/beer.

hmm..then since there weren't many eating scenes (that i recall), i'd go with English tea for Sherlock Holmes.  maybe some tea biscuits or scones

Em... Sherlock Holmes will not be nominated for anything, I feel fairly certain (well, maybe something technical... art direction, cinematography, something like that is possible, but not likely).

I like the diet coke idea though, since she rolled out every morning and drank a half a liter of it!

Saw "The Artist." The main character drinks whiskey, but nobody eats anything. I think we'd have to go with a moment of silence or some black and white cookies.
