tinker tailor soldier spy - you should start thinking about it as this will definitely be up for a few. best actor this year could very well go to Gary Oldman.  lots of liquor drinking so you could make something with vodka (it is a cold war film).  colin firth's character always has a cup of coffee in his hand which isn't as much fun. dont recall any dining scenes.

If you're up for a twist on this one and are missing a light appetizer, you can do a Tuna Tataki Sashimi Salad.

Or, more traditionally to fit the film, blintzes with a smoked salmon vodka shooter.   |@|

Save the date: I'll be having my Oscar party for the awards on Sunday Feb 26th. If you want in on that, let me know and I'll leave your name on the list with the doorman.  ***

FX maybe?  Really I was just throwing ideas out there, I don't expect PoA to get anything either.  And I haven't even started on suggestions for Mr Skin's Skinatomy Awards!

Another non-winner suggestion:
Green Lantern - jello

So, now that the nominations are out, "Midnight in Paris" opens up our food choices.
"Moneyball" gives us Twinkies, popcorn and ballpark franks.
"Tree of Life" could be any traditional Southern food, although one dinner scene is mashed potatoes, meatloaf, rolls and collards. In the other dinner scenes I couldn't actually figure out the main course, but there were beans and cornbread.
I still haven't seen "Hugo," "War Horse" or that 9/11 thing. Anybody have food ideas for those?

Saw the 9/11 movie last week...I can't for the life of me remember any food in that movie.

Several years ago, some friends had a 9/11 anniversary party, and served these in tall shot glasses.

So here's what we ended up with.
The Artist -- black and white cookies, French cheese in honor of the leading man
The Descendants -- ice cream, macadamia nuts and my brother already had a bobbing man in a grass skirt
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close -- New York strip steak, which will be sliced in smallish strips and served with horseradish sauce for War Horse
The Help -- chocolate fudge pie
Hugo -- the French cheese and champagne
Midnight in Paris -- same as above
The Tree of Life -- broccoli for dipping and a toy dinosaur
Moneyball -- Twinkies, ballpark franks
War Horse -- previously mentioned horseradish, apples, carrots, celery for dipping in a horseradish yogurt dip
We also have cookies from a bakery in Dallas that supplied cookies for the Oscar gift bags.

This is outrageous!
Or maybe they're happy and content, living their little donut lives until the monstrous humans come along to rip their doughy flesh open with their teeth, sucking up their jelly innards.
