Lost In LaMancha (Terry Gilliam's failure making Man of LaMancha movie)
that was depressing... along those lines: Hearts of Darkness

Roger & Me
Koyaanisqatsi
Balloon Hat
The Corporation
The Real Dirt on Farmer John
My Kid Could Paint That
The True Meaning of Pictures: Shelby Lee Adams' Appalachia

too many to list... I usually hit the docs whenever I go to a film festival.

Baseball.  They are currently updating it for the years since it ended with Sid Bream sliding into home.

Man Bites Dog is awesome.  Artsy but good.

The Devil's Playground about amish kids.

I saw that castration one on sundance about Eunichs.  Burly.
There was also a sundance one about people who cut off limbs because "they aren;t part of me".  One dude lived his life with his leg strapped up like it was a stump and missing from the knee down.  Those people make me feel good about myself.

There's also a documentary about tall bike gangs which was ridiculous.
Yes, I agree, with that I knew someone close that smoked and went to chewing tobacca. Used a spit can which was yuck, and then the door of his car.~Denise

'Devils Playground' was brilliant.  I've seen it but didn't remember the name.

'Love Letters to Edie' by John Waters.  About the life of Edith Massey

One of my favorites!  I saw Jesco perform at the Echo Lounge a while back.  He got all f*cked up and almost fell of the stage in the back.  HA!

I still love Grey Gardens.  And more recently I enjoyed Billy the Kid, following around a teenage boy in small-town Maine - to a certain degree, it had a similar intimacy and almost-too-close-to-home feel.

I think someone was thinking of Dogtown & Z-Boys.
Fast, Cheap and Out of Control is another good Errol Morris one.
Nico Icon is also really good -- even if you don't like Nico.
The Nomi Song about singer Klaus Nomi.
I've always heard good things about Straight No Chaser which is about Thelonius Monk and Let's Get Lost about Chet Baker
