I did some pro-bono consulting to Music Maker Foundation several years ago -- they are a great organization with a great mission and worthy of support.
that's awesome, thanks for the endorsement.

i love organizations like this. i was a recipient of a grant about 6 years ago.
i broke my ankle and had to stop touring for 5 months to rehabilitate it b/c i (idiotically) stayed on the road for 2 months after i broke it. i really didn't have a choice though b/c i had no other source of income besides playing,
but, i finally had to stop b/c i couldn't walk or put any pressure on it to even drive to my shows.
even being on a flight started to create unbearable swelling + pressure.
my ankle was almost the size of my upper thigh by the time i started to take care of it.

since i was a full time musician (for at least 5 years before my accident) i qualified to have my bills paid for by an organization called Musicares, which is the non-profit arm of the Grammys.
i got everything taken care of (even my emergency room bill from the hospital in DC) for 5 months (rent + all utilities and my car insurance payment since it came up during my rehabilitation period).
the only reason i'm not contributing to Musicares is b/c Eric Clapton and James Taylor et al do benefits for them every year.

Music Makers is a little closer to "home" for me and is rarely the recipient of artist contributions.
