Scythian - Immigrant Road Show

I've developed an obsession over drums recently.  I've also been listening to Richard Blade's Flashback Favorites.  Sassy loves it when I sing along like I did in high school!

I'm sort of in a non-musical phase of my life.  It's weird...I tend to only listen to music on weekends when it can be background while cleaning or doing stuff around the house.  It's sort of coinciding with my anti-pet phase.  I wonder if there's some correlation.

Speaking of RadioLab, this guy's a lot of fun, Reggie Watts.  Discovered him in their Curious Sounds: A RadioLab Concert podcast (also features Buke & Gass and drummer Glenn Kotche of Wilco; ATTN: user 'JBB').  The looped beat-box and comedy-type stuff is somewhat mundane but not uninteresting, but where Watts really shines is with the use and manipulation of his singing voice, and his improvisation.  I find it pretty captivating, have patience with this first track and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Included not to totally deride the novelty aspect of Watt's act, and to note that he strikes excellent chords at numerous stops between here and the previous video:

Did you catch Mastodon on Letterman just recently?
Mastodon - Curl of the Burl Live (Letterman 2011)

I asked Brent about the experience last weekend (I'm a major, life-long Letterman fan) and the first thing he mentioned was the old claim about how damn cold it is in the Ed Sullivan theater, said sitting in the green room was torture.  I asked if they considered getting Paul and the band to play along (as they used to do regularly) and he told me a story about how Paul Schaffer was fascinated by the little toys glued to his pedal rack!

No.  I haven't watched Letterman since the 90's when he was still funny.  Nowadays it seems like he is just phoning it in.

He still does it for me, although I don't tune in all that often lately.  Seeing friends on his show was a big deal to me.

New Coldplay...  it's weird for them, but I like a lot of it.
