New Walmart for Decatur
« on: December 16, 2011, 04:07 pm »
I saw in the AJC that Decatur has approved a new Walmart on N Dekalb Rd between Scott Blvd and Church St. This is the old strip center where Picadilly and the Thrift store are located. Its a very busy area.Dekalb General Med Center is right across Church st from the site. It is a relatively large site, but I am not sure if all the out buildings would be torn down to make way for parking. There is even a bowling alley underneath the shopping center. It might be nice to have a Walmart other than Gresham Rd a short distance away.

There's a walmart that is just as close on Memorial.  Its about 3 miles from this propsed one.

Lots of people are all up in arms about this Walmart but really, if it brings so life to the strip of blight that is from here down past North Dekalb mall that would be great.  The mall is dead.  lots around it is dead.  Thats the worst hancock fabrics ever.  The empty grocery store, etc.  Oooh, big lots, no thanks.  I say tear that shit down.
Yes, I agree, with that I knew someone close that smoked and went to chewing tobacca. Used a spit can which was yuck, and then the door of his car.~Denise

I HATE hate hate that they are going to ruin one of my most favorite areas of Atlanta with a freakin' Wall of Marts.
I LOVE Suburban plaza. Mr. Kim takes care of my watches and Ms. Kim alters my most difficult vintage with ease. I only take things that I can not do myself to her and they are complicated and she charges me such a small amount because she loves the clothes. They have ties to East Atlanta because their best friend has lived here for about 85 years.
We love the bowling alley, the fabric store isn't great but it suffices because there is no other I can get to easily on the bus/walking, the thrift stores, antique store, Indian fabric stores and "beauty" stores are all super there. Are they putting the Wal-Mart right where Suburban plaza is? If so, all that stuff will be wiped out. The Kims will be out of business (they are elderly and won't be opening another place, they have been in the current location for 30 years or so.)

There's a bunch of folks out there on the corner protesting today, along with a Channel 2 news van.
