If the Beltline ever gets going, I'd say that area would be destined to thicken out quite a bit, and this location would be within walking distance of it.

That'd be, in my estimation, the primary motivator, yes...

you can see all over atlanta buildings that were clearly not residential in residential areas. Old corner stores for the most part I figure. Is the problem with that is primarily a bar that gives issue?

Concur.  Atlanta was big into spot zoning in the middle of the 20th C; witness the little cuban place tucked into the heart of the Midtown residential neighborhood on 5th.  My issue is that a bar is a hig-intensity use:  lots of foot traffic, lots of activity, lots of late noise and light.  I'd have the same issue if it were something like a movie theatre as well.  That type of use can be compatible with residential, but it should be a higher-density residential, since that already has the expectation of increased ped traffic and activity.  As that area is currently developed, I think a BS'd stick out like a sore thumb, and indeed I'd worry for the viability of the pub based on a lower count of immediate potential patrons.

+1 I can think of dozens of spaces in our area that are better suited for the Brick Store than that corner.

well I'll agree to disagree on this one. I think we need more "spot zoning".

I think we need more rowhouse neighborhoods with corner pubs.

Eee-yup.  Healthy 'hoods equal healthy businesses.

To be fair, if they're trying to get ahead of the curve, and believe in the BeltLine, then they're staking out what could potentially be a pretty good spot (not far from a proposed stop).  But I'd be concerned for their fiscal health, as well as the general effect on the existing neighborhood, in the interim.

If BS moved there, I'd sign an agreement to eat there at least once a week.

I think it would be a great place for a pub. It could truly be a neighborhood place that people actually walked to. Although, I think if the church across the street is for sale they might be better off purchasing it since it has parking and is a much larger space. Trestletree "condos" are right down the street from that corner--exactly 1 block away. There's also a new condo complex a block in the other direction that I thought was supposed to be mixed use in a few of the buildings but nothing has moved in to my knowledge. Again, I would love to have something move in right there and I live about 3 blocks from it.
