I am one of 'those people'.

Every once in a while my 5yr old daughter and I have lunch at WB on a Sat or Sun.

She loves their grilled cheese with apple 'fries'. I love their pastrami sandwich with a side of something dark.

A 5yr old. In a brewpub. The horror.

Hah! Word, Dave2PVD.  :)% Anyone who thinks it's wrong to have kids in a brewpub obviously doesn't have kids (and thus does not recognize 1) the visceral need to keep the kid alive by feeding him/her, but 2) the equally-visceral need for daddy/mommy to have some 'keep the grown-ups sane juice' while said kid dines).

You have to FEED them too? Damn. Along with having to buy them stuff and put them through college only to come back and live with you... No wonder parents drink.

Good 'ol American justus!  Tar and feather first; they can clean it off later if not proven!

I think he was referring to the inevitability of the guy moving more than the idea that he should be forced to move.  I know I'd find it difficult to move back into the same neighborhood if I was accused of something like this.

...and Larry Clarke (nude teenage sex)...

I was nodding along until this one.  If you're taking pictures of underage folks doing it, that's kind of the definition of child pornography.

Well, stigma of the arrest and the "taint" effectively do force him to move . . .  it's rare indeed to any accused to shake off accusations of child molestation/pederasty/etc.   And there's a whole slew of really horrible cases of children having been brainwashed into making false accusations (Google "McMartin Pre-School").

Is it?  Clarke's not not controversial; but he's a very well recognized serious documentary photographer (See his most notable work "Tulsa"; he's also the filmmaker who did the movie "Kids") and held himself to be a neutral observer -- but yeah, he certainly pushes the edge.  But, teenage kids do have sex.   Does that mean it should always be "hidden"?  Never explored artistically?  What is the age cut-off?  Is this an American-only standard, can we accept art that explores this area from other cultures?  What if it's an illustration and not photography?  Isn't there something of the human condition/experience in the first awakening and exploration of sexuality that merits recording and exploration -- and yes, that's in puberty, not when you turn 18.  So, is that off-limits for artists?

I think there is a considerable area there for artistic exploration" without it devolving or being considered pornography or child "exploitation" (as nebulous as that term is).  Sally Mann photographed her own daughters in images that do suggest the first awareness of sexuality (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sally_Mann).   For some, tough stuff perhaps.  (Disclosure:  I'm a huge Mann fan -- I'd loan you my copy of Immediate Family, but I best not admit I have one in this state; if interested do see What Remains -- an exquisite documentary on her last series of work on death and decay, I thought stunning and absorbing).  One of my issues is that we as a society have really been conditioned by the media and the hyping of some of these cases of "child predators" to react in a knee-jerk way.

We looked at a bunch of Larry Clark stuff in photo class.  Yes, my teacher showed us images of teenagers presumably nude under the sheets in passionate embrace and kissing.  The photos were gorgeous glimpses of life and not provocative at all to me.  Not in the "i want to bang little kids" sort of way especially.
Yes, I agree, with that I knew someone close that smoked and went to chewing tobacca. Used a spit can which was yuck, and then the door of his car.~Denise

We just ate at the WB for the first time. I wish we had done it much sooner. We really enjoyed our meal and the craft brew was great. I loved the space and even though it was packed we got served quickly. Joe had the trout and I had shepards pie and frise salad. Both entrees were very good. This is a really attractive space and a good place to take out of town guests to impress them. Its definitely on our rotation now.

Finally made it back over here last night. Really enjoyed our visit.

The beer list is great. Not all the beer is great, but some of it is, and to me that gives the place a leg up on the other brewpubs in the city that I've been too. Also, it just feels like a beer drinker's- and brewer's- bar. Most of the staff that we've come across know a bit about brewing, which has led to some informative conversations. It's cool when whoever you talk to can tell you a little something about how the beer you're drinking was made. And no pretentiousness attached. In addition to the beer nerdness, we just got really great service. We sat at the bar and got to taste several beers in addition to the ones we ordered (I highly recommend the smoked porter). And the list is constantly rotating. If they didn't have something you liked today, go back next week and they'll have something different.

The food was outstanding. We had the New Orleans BBQ shrimp. The missus lived in New Orleans awhile, and she said it was pretty authentic, other than the inclusion of grilled corn in the dish (we guessed that was a gateway to bring over the low country boil crowd). Regardless, it was freaking delicious. One of those dishes that we honestly wouldn't have changed a thing about. It's messy, unless you're capable of eating unpeeled shrimp out of a cream sauce without your bare hands. I'm not.

We also had a mushroom flatbread and a pear salad. It's hard to make those sound exciting, so I won't bother, but they were both excellently executed. In fact, that seems to be their approach to the whole menu- keep it simple and do it really, really well.

These guys are really doing a great job.

For the veg-heads, I'm told that every Tuesday they have an extended selection of vegetarian menu items (and that those are delicious).

Good to know. They did have one vegetarian entree last night, which was nice to see. I'm used to seeing a veggie plate as the only entree option, and that's usually just 3 or 4 items off the side menu. I'd never make it as a vegetarian.
