Everything around them has been redeveloped and still they persist.you've GOT to be kidding. it is the best, authentic mexican restaurant around here. i'm not of the mindset that just because everything around there has been developed, it needs to fall in line. i like the place. it's "charming" and the food and people are good.

Tippens, Tuppens or whatever the hell it is. They have had the same late 60's modified four poster bed in their window since.....well since..... the late 60's, I think.
Is Watkins Products still at FS & Metropolitan? "SALVES!!! Come git ya salves! OINTMENTS!!! While they last!!"
I didn't even know that it closed but apparently it's the same people that are running it.http://whatnowatlanta.com/2011/05/06/aces-bar-and-grille-folds/That article doesn't make it sound appealing in the least. "Well we saw a decline in business so we're gonna do a gastropub because people love gastropubs." Sounds like their heart is really in it.

I completely disagree. YES, if you go during the usual hours when they are slammed service isn't that great because they are slammed! But the food has always been great, and they have some of the best Margaritas in SE-ATL. If there wasn't something special about Mi Barrio then you're right - they would have closed a long time ago. But, they are obviously doing something right. If you go during dinner hours quite often you will be waiting for a table...
Put me in the totally disagree camp. They get exquisitely right the part that matters - hospitality. We walk in there and the main woman (I can't remember her name) will yell from the counter that they have a tamal waiting for me. She remembers EVERY time that I like tamales. She knows my kid's names. They are just fun and delightful people. It's the kind of Mexican food I'm used to from California that you get in a classic dive - a place where they'll give you authentic if you know what you're talking about. And their beans are exactly like what you get in Rosarita Beach alongside your basket of lobsters. We go to Watkins periodically for certain baking extracts.
