Anyone else dealing with a plague of beetles today? What gives?

Little brown ones that look a bit like lady bugs?  They are everywhere at our house today.  The sound of them running into the gutters and house kind of sound like rain.  I was trying to look them up a few minutes ago.

Yes.  They nearly prohibited outside play - they were way too annoying and in-your-face.  We went to the church parking lot to play, since they only seem to want to hang where there is ample foliage.  There are 22 on the window near me as I type this.

They were dropping on the patio of the Biasucci gardens.  I had a couple on me.
Or maybe they're happy and content, living their little donut lives until the monstrous humans come along to rip their doughy flesh open with their teeth, sucking up their jelly innards.

Does it look like the photo below?  If so, that is a kudzu bug.  Invading Georgia for years.  Fairly harmless although super annoying and really odd smell when crushed.

That's them.  Why did they all come out at once?  Do they also have a really short life span?  Because by 6pm, they were more or less gone.

They have "come out" because the kudzu they live on is receeding now and they are looking for a place to overwinter. They are a form of stink bug and attracted to light.
You can build stink bug traps for them if you get them inside:

I've had them at least the last half of the summer until now.  They did seem especially prolific today.  Maybe it has something to do with the temperature today?  They like to hang out on my laundry hanging outside and on my screens  on the windows.  Today they were also all over the downspouts of my gutters.

Had a few of those on us when we got home from the bounce house mexi-fest at the Farmer's Market lot yesterday. I had no idea what they were.

Last winter they were all over inside our house.  I'm pretty sure they came in on the indoor plants that were summering outside.  I called the extension service and they recommended squishing them to get rid of them.  FL, I did not try the stink bug traps, but I will this year if we have the same problem.  Debbie, last year I read that, as the weather gets cooler at night, they look for the warmest part of the house to attach to.  And that they are attracted to light colors.  Probably explains them all over your gutters.

They are totally out of control here in the 'burbs. They were hitting our windshield rapid fire yesterday - kind of like love bugs swarming in FL. We spent some time on some property out in the middle of nowhere on Saturday, and we literally were covered in them. Harmless but kind of disturbing.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

They are on only one window sill in the house but are here in numbers.

I hate those things.

They're always all up in my house driving my cats insane.  And I do not appreciate/enjoy having my face pounced on at 3 AM because Icky and Lu are after some buggy bugs.

I'm invaded for a couple of hours in the mornings.

They are gone for the day now.
