Cafe Paris Closed?
« on: April 06, 2011, 08:18 am »
My roommate just called from there and it was closed and gutted overnight.  The employees were there and had not been told.  Does anyone have more info?

I am really sad about it.  I had gotten used to someone from my household walking over and getting croissants for breakfast over the weekends.

I don't know exactly what my roomie meant by gutted but I can only assume it meant the equipment was gone.   :([

The manager is one of my FB friends.  She posted this morning that the place was completely cleaned out and that the owner had left some employees unpaid.

This sort of thing is ridiculous. It seems like 95% of the people opening shops around here have done no market research and made no contingency or risk management plans. And what friggin bank gives you a business loan when you can't show some reasonable possibility of success based on numbers and not just "plucky optimism."    "Can Do" attitude is necessary, but not the whole story. Jeebus, business people, inject some realism into your BS and stop believing your own hype.  You can't keep starting businesses where step 3 of the business plan is "and then a miracle happens and everybody loves us!"

PS: Unless your name is "Morelli"

PPS: I'm kidding... Morelli's make a unique and amazing product, has a good location, friendly staff, and a good customer experience. That idea was always gonna work if executed correctly.

What Fawkes said!  It's hard work running a successful restaurant, which comes often with a lot of expense again and again by the owners until they are successful.  Ask the Graveyard or Holy Taco or UC or any of the other successful businesses around here. It costs a lot of money, time and aggravation to open and keep open a restaurant.  The hope is long term success, but getting there and staying there is a constant struggle. I give props to the ones that can do it and take care of their staff.
Hope your footing always stays in the road and you don't fall in the road!   -- Denise

She never had a business loan for Little cafe paris. She hadn't even completely dissolved her partnership with "the Wafflerie" in Lenox somewhere! She is a bi-polar lunatic! Her "menu' was a complete rip-off of this place in Lenox where she was the Chef/Partner.

Coincidentally, The Wafflery also closed this week....Hmmmmmm.

That is really crappy to leave your employees high and dry like that.

InchhighpvtI, you should sue her.  Small claims court for pay and equipment.
Yes, I agree, with that I knew someone close that smoked and went to chewing tobacca. Used a spit can which was yuck, and then the door of his car.~Denise

If both businesses closed at the same time, I'm betting that somebody left the country! The owner wasn't from the U.S.  The business didn't seem to be doing badly.  I always saw people in there when I went in.

I spoke with someone that works (worked) there Friday night.  She mentioned she wasn't going to be working there much longer (it didn't sound like this was the reason why)...the owner had been out of the country and was coming back over the weekend?

My parents loved that place for some reason. They'll be sad to hear this. We went with them once and didn't see the appeal at all. They couldn't make a hot cup of coffee.
