Poll: They should put a ____ at 731 Moreland Avenue SE
« on: April 20, 2011, 09:47 pm »
This is not the place to discuss whether or not a QuikTrip is appropriate or desirable... there's another thread for that, ya heard?

This is the place where you list your ideal commercial neighbors... be it a Starbucks with a double drive-thru, a Dunkin Donuts-slash-Baskin Robbins, a Popeye's Chicken & Biscuits, or a Foxy Lady II.  Dream big!

Anyone who mentions QuikTrip in this thread subsequent to this post will be sentenced to an afternoon in the Village stockade... then we'll tell Flower Lady that your tagger name is Mikey.

So bring it... if you were suckered into paying Jeff Notrica too much for a corner Beer-Gigs-Lottery store and were facing bankruptcy, what would YOU build?

A pool-hall with better tables than the POSs at the Graveyard.

Italian grocery?

Or maybe a family-style pub.  Pitchers of beer, no smoking, big ugly comfy booths, pinball.  With a bluegrass jam on sunday afternoons?

My Italian grocery has a deli counter that will beat the pants off of Jason's Deli.

Well if your Italian Mafia grocery has the backing of a Jason's Deli and won't close faster than Cafe Paris/E2/Hot Spot than have at it!

The Italian Grocery in my head is all powerful.  There is a movie theater in the basement, and a roller rink with 1985 prices.

ok...skip the grocery.  I like the pub idea.  It will be called the Trolley Bar and be the finest in the land serving only tastiest of brews

A nice sized psychedelic 60's dance club/psychedelic vintage clothing store/psychedelic art gallery with a huge multi-colored garden display for all to enjoy.
I want the building painted in multiple bright rainbow colors (because I know that would drive JBB to insanity....)

So like one of those McMansions in Roswell but with an Italian Bakery on top?

Beer-Gigs

This is what they do out in front of the store, isn't it?

Small to mid-size hardware
Small to mid-size grocery
Art supply
Game and comic outlet
Antiques market
Tool repair
Motorcycle graveyard
Pinball emporium

Whatever it is, something with an identity that reflects what we enjoy about the unique reputation that our quadrant of the city has garnered.  I know it's not an easy balance, but to me it's worth it lest we succumb to the mundane homogeny of typical U.S. culture.

Yes, some of these have already come and gone.  I don't believe that fact alone excludes variations of those models from being viable.

I want to say Taco Bell too, but that would be very, very bad for this family.  Very bad.

In and Out burger.

A diner -  the flashy, Greek-owned kind that was ubiquitous where I grew up.

Arts and Crafts store.

A sit-down Chinese place (nicer than Buffalo China, but not as foodie as Tasty China).

A mini-grocery store - like the ones in NYC that sell the flowers outside, have a small buffet, and is not much more expensive (if at all) than a regular grocery store.

A Rite-Aid, CVS or Walgreens.

Laser Tag.
