QuikTrip on corner of Moreland/Ormewood Ave?

The Porch Press mentioned something about a QuikTrip on the northwest corner of Moreland and Ormewood Ave and wondered if anyone has heard anything more about this?

One of my various and as-yet unsettled-on opinions of this is that QT would be awesome competition for the craptastic fueling/beering/lotterying stations in our area. 

I believe... and I failed to articulate this point with LOTJ the other day over a lunch at Cake Hag... that the only way to run out the lesser inconvenience stores is through healthy competition.  A competition I wish Ale Yeah! could have participated in, but that's another thread.

Yes, I'd rather a QT replace (geographically) any of a number of existing businesses closer to I-20.
Yes, I think QT is a massive improvment over Jiffy Grocery.
No, that's not what I'd prefer to see on that corner, given some hypothetical choice granted by the Land Use and Development Fairy.


there might be enough land zoned C-1 commercial for the QT to waltz through the building permit process, but if they need to rezone the house on Hall Avenue then that would trigger a couple levels of public review & input.

I love a QT but it seems like that would make that particular intersection really busy and bring in alot of extra traffic in the neighborhoods. You know the people that will cut down Berne to Woodland to come in the back way of QT. I am not sure that is the greatest place for it. Maybe in a less residential part of Moreland, say past the kroger where all the pawn shops are.

Yeah, I'd have that concern as well. The little stubby part of Ormewood pretty much depends on not a lot of traffic coming through to make that non-aligned intersection with Woodland work. It wouldn't take much traffic to make all of that a real mess.

I could dream up better uses too, but I'd rather not wait 5, 10 or 15 years for them.  If QuikTrip wants to wipe out the crap that is there now and build, I say go for it.

Seriously though, I wonder if this is going to be a really large QT like you see in the suburbs or a more compact one. Funny, my husband was just commenting the other day that he wished there was a QT around here. Anyone that attends the SAND meetings here anything more about this?

As a neighbor in between steve and drayvin, I have to say I am pretty split. QT is about the best gas station you could ask for and I applaud any redevelopment of that corner.

But a gas station is about the worst of the best case. And the worst part of living at this spot is the late night weekend traffic. Seems this will only give them more reason for it.

Have there been any other possibilities for that property recently?

I just hope for a nice fence and maybe some privacy trees.

This is just heresay, others living in the area longer than me can correct me if I'm wrong but....

The builder of my house told me back in '04 that CVS was interested in the parcel but they wound up down by the Kroger instead.  I haven't heard of any other interest in the tract since then.

Drayvin...I think they do build several sizes...I agree something as large as what you have at N. Druid Hills and Briarcliff probably wouldn't work/fit there.
