EAV Post Office
« on: March 05, 2010, 06:38 pm »
So I went to the post office today to deliver a package and a letter.   The line was the usual 8 or so and another buzzer was up towards the front.  I mentioned to guy behind me that
I saw on the news they were possibly going to close a few offices and maybe stop delivery on Saturdays... blah blah - nice guy -  small talk.
He then says he's an auditor w/ the post office and is there to find out how long people have to stand in line and is timing it (he did have a little device w/ him) and we had interesting conversation about the PO.  The lady at the desk recognized him after awhile so I believed him.   I was there in line 25 minutes.  I think the long wait was good for keeping this one open?  Not sure.

SB that is interesting because the man BEHIND me was going on and on about the closing of post offices and the ruination of the Georgia Gov't and giving the Post Master way too much power to make decisions.

I waited 1/2 hour for service and there weren't many people ahead of me (not as many as there were between you and I) and the postal clerk was working as fast as she could. She has said that some days there is NOBODY in the back at all. One day I went and the post office was closed for an hour because there was a single employee there, and she needed her breaks and lunch. She was left in that building, open in the front and back ALONE.

I heard your guy.  He was pretty loud  :)    My guy said that Friday payday's are the worst day to go to the post office.  I'll have to remember that.

Friday payday, anytime before tax season, any time before Christmas.... middle of summer is usually pretty good except on Friday Payday date.
Oh, also the 3rd is not good. That's Gov't cheque day.

You know if they just charged the regular rate for all that junk mail like catalogs they would make enough business to keep Saturday delivery.  Bulk rate is not fair anyway.

Close that place down.  Good riddance.  Useless bunch of fools working there.  I've never once seen anyone concerned, efficient or nice working there.  Usually there's one person at the counter and what sounds like a party of ten or fifteen people having a party in the back.

I differ on the nice front. There are a lot of nice people who work there. Maybe periodically concerned. Efficient, no. But it's the post office. It's not like Little 5 Points or for that matter High Point, NC are any better.

Post office reports that their debit/credit card system isn't working today, so they are only accepting cash or checks. Kind of appropriate. I sped off in my horse and buggy in disgust.

I don't use the place often, but I can't say I've ever had much trouble there.  Perhaps my expectations are just really low.

I am in the same camp - just reporting an inconvenience from today, in case anyone else was headed that way.

In truth, I do want to keep it open in the hopes that one day, through some fateful bit of serendipity, I can come to know what it is that makes that fella's hair look like that.

I was shocked, but I went into the post office with 8 things I'd sold on ebay, so I needed a box for each thing. The lady was so kind & courteous and helped me find the right box. She showed me with labels to use. Then when we were done she let us check out quickly. It was the most pleasant experience I've had at a post office in years.

Now, on the other hand, i went directly from there to the UPS in ERD. And you'd've thought I wanted to express mail my own ass to the president. It took 30 minutes for the dude to find a box that the perfectly good box I'd brought it in could be put into. Then we decided to give me the paperwork after he'd spent forever. At one point Nathan got so aggravated he walked inside and asked if there was a problem. Apparently Frank has problems using computer, tape, and tape measures. Sorry Frank, but maybe the UPS store isn't your calling.
