School life after No Child Left Behind
« on: February 09, 2012, 11:34 am »
I'd mentioned Georgia's successful petition to escape No Child Left Behind over in the Politics board, but figured I'd move the discussion of its practical effects over to Parenting for those of us who wil be affected.

So is there any sense yet about what if any changes we'll see in our schools as a result of this and when we'd start to see "different" things? We've got people deeply involved in both our local charter schools and regular public schools (and I'm sure the APS-involved folks are just jumping at the chance to take on yet another big-change event right now), so maybe there's some insight?

Or is today the point where the thinking starts with the waiver being reality?

Is it safe to say that this stupid question of "did you meet AYP????" goes away now?

OK, so we're a little past the breaking-news period here - any conversation happening among the school advocates, boards, councils, PTAs, etc. about the effect of this?

I am actually excited for this movement though something that has been the ideal for years in and out but only a few effects could be seen today.  I mean, there are those who are really interested with the idea of bringing everyone together for school, but sometimes that could be its own downfall when you get too much students in, without that much attention given to each.

The ratio seemed something that isn't talked about but quite frankly the most important part of the whole idea.

Still waiting for more detail on what it all means.  And still more distracted by the redistricting discussions.
