How should Georgia re-write its elected officials' oath?
« on: January 05, 2012, 08:53 am »
Hilarious story (thanks, Ratpack!) about how elected officials in Georgia have to take an oath written in 1949 that includes swearing they are not a member of the Communist Party.

Kind of outdated and ridiculous, and the suggestion is that the General Assembly should re-write the oath to get rid of such a dated reference. But this being Georgia, I shudder at the thought of what a new oath might say.

Perhaps:

"I do hereby solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United Sates and the Constitution of Georgia and that I will call 911 whenever I see a suspicious Mexican."

Other possibilities?

First thing that came to mind ....

"O LORD, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits, in Thy mercy." And the LORD did grin and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats and large chu... And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it

Ladies and gentleman, greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good.
Greed is right.
Greed works.
Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.
Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind.
"In a nation ruled by swine, all pigs are upward mobile — and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: Not necessarily to Win, but mainly to keep from Losing Completely... "

How about something a little more real:

I pledge not to be a self serving douche
To work for the people of this state and not just for my self
 or my political party.
I pledge to keep my pants zipped or keep my panties in place during
 my term in office.
I pledge to act like I have an ounce of sense and will not sell my vote to the highest bidder.
Praise the Lord or not, and pass the biscuits.

How about something a little more real:

I think you're missing the point that you live in, and we are talking about, Georgia.  ;)
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity but they've always worked for me.
