If so then here is your chance to have your voice heard and affect some change in the City of Atlanta.

Our friend to the west, Ron Lall, was at last night's EACA meeting on behalf of the NPU in relation to the much talked about liquor license renewal for 1580 Flat Shoals Rd, and he made mention to the below committee that has been put together to supply the CoA recommendations for changes to the current liquor licensing and enforcement procedures.

This is one of a number of public input sessions that will be held (hopefully in different parts of the city) to gather public input on issues and concerns with the current ordinance, and to then inform the work of the committee by helping to scope the areas where changes are needed.

The kinds of issues that have been identified so far fall into one of three buckets - wording updates to make the ordinance comply with current case law and/or state regulations, process changes to make the city's licensing process more efficient, and policy changes to change the way the ordinance works.

The Technical Advisory Group consists of 17 members, who have been appointed by city council member groups, and by trade and industry groups. There have been three committee meetings to date - one in December which was just an organizational meeting, and then one in Jan and Feb. Meetings are televised, and should be available for download/viewing from the City's Chanel 26 web site.

Ron is the Vice Chair of this committee, while it is chaired by Councilmember Bond.  Much of the above description was supplied to me by Ron himself.

Where was this committee when we lost Ale Yeah! to the city of Decatur?   :([
Or maybe they're happy and content, living their little donut lives until the monstrous humans come along to rip their doughy flesh open with their teeth, sucking up their jelly innards.

1580 Flat Shoals Rd is in Riverdale, according to Google. I presume they mean 1580 Flat Shoals Ave, right at the split?
Next time you drink a homebrew, thank Jimmy Carter, who on October 14, 1978 signed H.R.1337 legalizing homebrewing in the United States.

Nope, that place ain't on the Avenue, it's on the Road. Stick that SE on the end if you want a good Google of it.

Wait, it says it is one of a number of meetings.  I will see if the others are scheduled.  It would be great to have some EA folks representing if possible.

*:)* My thoughts EXACTLY! (Although, with the impending parking meters in the village, the Decatur location was the best decision!)

Very curious.   What's the beef with 1580 anyway?  It's a clean place with a nice guy behind the register.  If we're judging a convenience store by gambling machines, then there are quite a few who the police just turn a blind eye to far worse than 1580.

I think it's more the crowd that hangs out in and around the store.  I've only popped in once because I felt like I was about to be a victim as I walked out the door.

Ah... I stop by there a few times a week and have never seen this crowd.  Must be the late crowd?

I've been in during the day and the crowd isn't bad, (nighttime is another story) but they have so little on their shelves that I don't see how on earth only 5% of their sales are coming from alcohol. (which is a requirement since it is next to homes and a church)

but you are right that there are far worse places, (the casino Citgo at Fayettevile) those just don't happen to be up for a new license.
