Deck work and ideas
« on: January 13, 2012, 07:06 pm »
Hi to everyone. Ideas on deck cleaning and preserving.

Several people have asked for ideas on their decks over the time we have been in business. So I will let you know what I do.
I suggest a pressure washer with no more than 3200psi. A wide fan tip will suffice to get the gunk off. Hold the wand about 6-8" away from the deck. Any closer and you will cause your deck to get a "furry" look with the deck boards.

Put on some clothes you do not mind getting filthy because you will from some of the decks we have worked on. The spray gets everywhere especially little openings. Just work one board at a time, about 3-4' away. Keep watch on the fuel and plug away. Remember water first then start up, then backwards when shutting down.

When you are done with the cleaning of the deck, the balusters and handrails, oh yeah the steps too, let it sit for a day or so. Dry it out real good. Personally, I do not like staining. It gets everywhere. I have seen the wind kick up and your house ends up with freckles. I use Thompsons Water Seal. Great product, Flood bought them out now. But they still use the same formula. Besides it dries in a matte finish and dries clear. No freckles. Got to love that.

Well there you go, some ideas on deck cleaning. Hope I could help. More ideas and suggestions to follow for those that are interested. Drop me a line if you have questions. Will try to help.
