We've got gutter guards, too, and haven't ever had to clean our gutters.  So, it might be worth thinking about.  Don't waste your money on the little screens and things -- I had those on my old house they didn't work at all.

One note: I know this goes without saying, but be careful when hiring "just some guy" who cleans gutters.  It's worth the $$ to get someone who's insured and ask to see their worker's comp policy (or have them sign a waiver, which actually doesn't cover you 100%, but would help if they tried to sue you).  I have a friend who got sued by someone she hired to paint the eaves/fascia on her house -- climbing on a ladder and reaching to clean is definitely something I wouldn't want someone to do that wasn't insured.  Mowing grass, sure.  Minor repairs, sure.  Climbing on ladders, no way.

Just my two cents.... :)

Being careful with ladders and such, climbing on the roof and falling off, well forget that. I used a tool that is at Home Depot. It is a telescoping rod with a "nozzle" at the end. You hook it up to a hose and spray to your hearts content. Wear raingear. You WILL get soaked. It is a cheap way of getting it done and it works. The tool is about (I think) 40 bucks?? With that all done, get the pop in gaurds like everyone says. Those work too. Mine fit under the shingles and then popped in. Not quite sure how everyone else's worked. Hope that helps anyone looking at this thread in the future.

We use A Better Gutter Cleaning and love the convenience. From what I understand if you get gutter guards, don't go cheap. You get what you pay for.

I have a yard guy who cleans the gutters a few times a year, he just adds on to the charge for the yard. He's reasonable all around. My yard guy I had for 10 years moved to Mississippi and this is his replacement. He is licensed and insured. Great guy - Sam Garr with Superior Scapes Landscaping. 404-849-8304
