Shed Construction Recommendations?
« on: November 20, 2011, 12:00 pm »
We are interested in building a shed in our back yard.  Don't mind buying something from a box store but also open to construction if it's reasonably priced.  Hoping for something that is kinda cute, perhaps with a window or two about 8x10 or 10x10.  Does anyone have recommendations for taking this project on?  We can help build but certainly don't want to take a trial and error approach and could use someone who knows what they're doing.
Any insight appreciated.

Bought ours from Costco and were very happy :http://www.costco.com/Common/Category.aspx?ec=BC-EC5935-Cat50126&pos=3&whse=BC&topnav=&cat=49275&eCat=BC|50126|49275&lang=en-US

Thanks!  Did you put down a concrete pad or put it on cinder blocks?

We bought one at Home Depot or Lowe's (I can't remember which) a few years ago and put it together over an afternoon.  We put it on concrete blocks, as you can see.

Did ours on a gravel bed contained by Rail Road timbers.  Would just do blocks if I could do it again.

Would definitely put the shed on some sort of platform, be it concrete or wood floor. We have used 4by posts in concrete with joists bolted to it to make sure it is level. After that, we build the floor system and anchor the system with 4by's in concrete as well. Then we build the shed. I personally like the one called Arrow at Lowe's. Good shed, somewhat easy to assemble, can anchor to the wood floor, simple and easy. Usually takes us about 2-3 days. Get everything squared up, plumb and level. Have built many. Have one in EAV to look at if need be.
