Elder Tree Public House...
« on: January 30, 2012, 03:21 pm »
...is the name of the new bar opening where Blue Frog used to be.

The chef used to be at Fado and says they're going to focus on "Irish, English and Scottish cuisine" which I suppose means chip butties and fried mars bars.  While I hope they do well (and have good fish & chips), I was never a fan of the food or crowd at Fado and hope that the atmosphere isn't as fratty.

"the restaurant will cater to soccer and rugby fans, and even open early for some English Premier League Matches."

Hooligans!
Or maybe they're happy and content, living their little donut lives until the monstrous humans come along to rip their doughy flesh open with their teeth, sucking up their jelly innards.

No one is allowed to mock Scottish food until you've been or lived there!  Mellamur and her husband told me after their visit that it was some of the best food they've ever had!  I will never eat salmon, lamb, scallops, oysters or beef again in Atlanta after living there for the year!  And deep fried Mars Bars started in Stonehaven down the road from me and they rock in a horrible, hot chocolate chip cookie kind of way!  *fisticuffs!!*.  ;D

I know a few of the bartenders to be and they're awesome. I agree with you totally on the Fado vibe, though. I'm hoping traditional pub style with good simple food, cosy nooks and a decent selection of beers. That's all a good pub really needs.

My husband is a hooligan!  Yay!  *more fisticuffs!!*

Wonderful to have a place in the neighborhood where I can kick back and watch the All Blacks dominate the competition...

My only question is will the bartenders and waitresses be dressed like this?

It's a trend I've seen in pub themed restaurants lately.

What? Food in Scotland was crap, I tell you! Who likes fresh sea critters right out of the water, served on an octopus plate on a bed of seaweed? Or tasty cullen skink? Oh, alright. I guess the food was ok  ::) but the weather? Meh.  :-*

*note: Scotland is quite lovely. The weather is fabulous, the tour guides are perky and easily swayed to pause touring and pop into a pub. When said tour guide manages to pull visitors out of pubs to see the sights you might run into a seal, a castle, some catacombs or a room of mirrors.

//jack//. I always wanted to open a bar in the old firehouse called the Firestation and have scantily clad hot waitresses and the fire pole as a stripper pole and serve drinks with names like "The Inferno" and have awesome hot wings.  Fantastic marketing strategy as I am shunned by the community for crapping up EAv.  ;D

I spent a year in England during college, so was more mocking their cuisine (other than curries & fish n chips).  I was way more impressed by the beer (hooray for Real Ale).

It will be nice to have a place in the Village to watch EPL games and hopefully have a fry up on a Saturday morning though.  I seriously do wish the owners, chefs, and bartenders to be the best of luck.  It's just the reference Fado that has me shaking my head.

Nah, needs more tattoos to fit in the village.
