Old Gas Station on Glenwood (across from HT)
« on: December 03, 2011, 12:44 pm »
Had lunch with a friend who's partner brokered the deal for the gas station. It's going to be a Mellow Mushroom...

Uh huh. The Lock & Key was supposed to be a Mellow Mushroom drive-thru only two years ago. I'll believe it when I see it.

GOOD LORD, gluten free pizza I don't have to make from scratch potentially a block away. I'll die happy but 30lbs heavier.

Their gluten free pizza tastes like ass.  SteveD'sKevin and I met a guy from Mellow Mushroom while covering graffiti on that building and he said no growth in EAV for 10 or so years.
Or maybe they're happy and content, living their little donut lives until the monstrous humans come along to rip their doughy flesh open with their teeth, sucking up their jelly innards.

I didn't get it either. With Grant Central so close, it seems ridiculous. But, that's what he told me. I agree - I'll believe it when I see it. It would be nice if something went there, instead of a bunch of guys hanging out there all the time...

I agree with that - something's better than nothing. I hope it doesn't eat into GC's business too much. Like Mwxican places, I'm not sure how many the village can support.

Still bummed the BBQ place didn't work out - THERE'S a gap that needs filling.

I thought he was still working on opening in that location? (I mean, I guess not according to above, but I wonder what happened)

yes, Papa John's down Moreland to the south, Camelli's up Moreland to the north... we'll be swimming in pizza.

Would have preferred BBQ or maybe a Farm Burger.

We (me and Mellamur) helped the former proposed BBQ place look at this location. The building needs a lot of work (a serious top to bottom rehab, if not a full rebuild, although the bones seemed to be pretty structurally intact), but it has great visibility, sufficient parking for code, good access (there's access off of Glenwood and off of Flat Shoals, although someone dumped fill at the Flat Shoals access point, but the curb cut is still there). There's also a pylon sign on the site. This would be an awesome location for a casual restaurant. A Mellow Mushroom would rock there.

When my Kevin and HFranks were doing some Village clean up and de-graffiti-ing a few weeks ago Kevin tells me some Mellow Mushroom execs who'd been dining at Holy Taco came up to them and chatted them up for a few minutes.

Kevin said they told them they wanted to open in EAV but that it would be about "10 years" before they did.

That doesn't make any sense to me, but  :(~
