We went therenfor dinner tonight and mostly enjoyed it. The food was really good, but I thought it was overpriced - $25 for 2 burritos, 2 sodas, and an order of chips and salsa. And that's before tip. I also wish they could put in another register. The staff was incredibly friendly and the service was good (they messed up an order, but were quick to make it right, which is all I ask).

I'm looking forward to going back once they've gotten establihed and the kinks worked out, but I hope the prices come down, or else it's going to be more of a treat than a routine stop.

I had issue with the price as well. I ordered a chicken burrito with nothing fancy added to it and a pop and my total was $10, I know that is not outrageous, but if decided to fancy up my burrito with any of the fixings, I could have easily ended up with a $15 burrito. If the prices don't come down, I will not be frequenting this spot very often.

Also, the queso was a bit too thick and it really needed some spice added to it, maybe some chopped up jalapenos or something.

Other than that, i was pretty happy. The food was solid, the staff was super nice and apologetic about anything that might have gone wrong. I think they are a great addition to the hood, will be an even more awesome addition if they tweak with the prices a little more, oh, and add another register.

Went tonight and the first thing that struck me is how great a job they did with the space.  I wasn't expecting it to be so spacious.  I had the shrimp & pablano quesadilla special which was damn good.  I think the quality of the ingredients come across and which are going to cost a little bit more.  I'm fine with that if everything tastes that good.  This ain't taco bell.

I didn't see an itemized bill but I think those pops are likely to sneak the price up.  If I recall, tacos started at $2.50, burritos weren't much more and quesedillas started at $5. Meat and toppings obviously add up.

I'm looking forward to trying everything.

I really can't see bitching about the price with all the other overpriced bull in the village. On par in my book.

I got a shrimp quesadilla and a coke.  11 bucks.  I can get a quesadilla with almost everything in it from willy's and pay about 8 for the same deal.  Yeah, its 3 bucks, but if i am going to spend 11 bucks i want it to be more than what i can make at home.  I easily could have made that quesadilla in my own kitchen.  I'm not knockin them, it was good, it just wasn;t "wow, i can't wait to go back".  It wasn't distinctive.
Yes, I agree, with that I knew someone close that smoked and went to chewing tobacca. Used a spit can which was yuck, and then the door of his car.~Denise

Did anybody notice if they have a kids menu?  My kids are addicted to burritos and I was really hoping that Tomatillo's would become our regular stopping place instead of Willy's.  But if its that much more expensive per person, that adds up fast.

In any case, we'll go check it out soon!

I liked the place fine but I also question the value.  My burrito was pretty simple but I just realized that I spent more there than I do at Matador and, yeah, Willy's.  I will try again though because the people were very nice and the food wasn't bad at all, just not sure it's gonna beat out the other options.

i didn't see one, nor did i see the size of the burritos.  it is more expensive (and much better) than willy's.

Willy's at least seasons the meat and has more intricate flavors.

Also, I feel like there was some sort of kids option.

I'm definitely willing to pay more for quality and to support a local place.  But if the difference in cost for a family of 4 starts to approach $12-$20/meal, it won't replace Willy's for us.  It will just be another place we go every so often.

All this is pretty theoretical now.  Like I said, I'm really looking forward to trying it out!

I don't know why it comes as a surprise why the cost is more.  They don't have the cost structure of a Willy's to get the price down.  If they competed with Willy's on price they would go out of business.  Now if they are offering a better tasting burrito with better quality it could justify the higher price but it doesn't sound that way.

I guess it comes down to if  you want to support a local business and pay for the convenience of it being there and not having to travel up to ERD.

yeah, the two are not comparable.  willy's is a slight step up from taco bell, IMO.

i get the point that due to it costing more, some will choose not to dine there as frequently as a chain like willy's.  fair enough.  to compare them as equal in all but cost however seems off-base.

I'm actually comparing them more to Bell St. Burritos right now.  Similiar pricing but I think Bell St. is yummier and does a better job at packing goodness into a burrito.  I'm in no way giving up on Tomatillos though.

Willy's is more of a cheap meal for me since I can get out of there for less than $5.  I don't expect that from Tomatillos.

Willy's is local, and the ingredients are just as fresh.  Comparing it to taco bell is just plain rude.

BUT comparing Tomatillos to say, Bell St., is reasonable and yes, i like Bell St. a bit better.  I wish they had copied the Frijoleros food instead of Tortillas.

I agree comparing Willy's to taco bell is just ridiculous.  I love both but the quality of food is significantly better at Willy's.  Also, they offer completely different food options!  In my opinion, there are not many burrito options in Atlanta that are far above and beyond Willy's at the moment.
