Nail salon in the village
« on: July 23, 2010, 08:46 pm »
SO my friend SB has been making me bet my feets butchered at local butcher shops.  The first one we went to was Walmart and they did an amazing job.  It was clean, the staff was professional and the toes lasted for a month.

The second one we went to was at the ghetto Korger.  The seemed to do a good job but I left for the cruise and when I got back it looked like a 5th grader had done it.

So I tried our place in the hood.  They where not very professional and they used dirty equipment from person to person.  That was kind of gross.  Got all done and walked down to the MIdway and looked down to see half the polish had come off.  I marched right back there and they fixed not just that toe, but put another coat on all of the others.
I had hoped that this would be the place, but have heard too many good things about the place in ERD.  That's next.
If anybody wants to see some seafoam green toe nails...well, you know where to find us.

Not to scare you or anything, but you really need to check out the board inspections on any place that offers pedicures.  Don't end up losing a foot or a leg to infection from dirty instruments!!!!

If you see a technician use the same instruments on someone else, leave!  You wouldn't let someone at a tattoo shop use a used needle on you, would you??

Ummmm. 2 Stories about ERD nailsalon.

***A certain local atlanta councilperson's daughter, from what I have been told, acquired a staff infection from a certain nail salon in ERD...I am not naming names.

***Last time I was in there, I was reading a magazine and looked back up in time to notice most of the workers had disappeared leaving many customers wondering just where everyone went so suddenly. I paid my tab and walked to my car. As I came around the car to enter, 4 of the workers were crouching on the ground between my drivers  door and the car next to me. I am not positive, but I believe that someone came into the shop(health inspector?) and the technicians that weren't licensed ran from the shop and hid between cars about 6 or so parking spots behind the shop.
Be careful when using this nail salon. I found that the shop next to The Albert in Inman Park is the best nail shop locally. I actually even was pleased that I received a real leg massage instead of a banging fist in my calf....Refreshing.

I'd asked folks about pedi recommendations on here a month or so ago, and finally went about a week and a half ago to Jazmin spa over on moreland in l5p.  everything seemed really clean from what i saw, and they did a really good job.  the girl was even nice about when i'd flinch when she was doing my heels with a file and i was ticklish in a couple spots.  i got a bit of a leg and foot massage (not the full deal, which was a little more $) with the regular pedi which was nice, and my toes still look great.  wouldn't have minded another top coat of clear to make them a little shinier, but it's really holding up nicely.  i got an american "french" pedi (so a little more pinky/my flesh tone than white white) which was $34, regular pedi is $29.   SO worth it.  go! :)

Reports on the Buzz about the ERD place = not favorable. Your buddly Muddly gets her nails done frequently does she not? I think she's mentioned some great places (like Jazmin) on the Buzz. However, you might want to call first, and ask how they deal with the crankle.

Why not go back to the Wal of Marts if you like it there?

Yeah, Flower lady... I have been to every local nail shop.  Do NOT go to the ERD place - nightmare (when I got my arms waxed, they poured wax on a wound after I asked them to avoid the area!)!

Jazmin's good, but takes a long time and expensive and they definitely have an attitude.  My favorite place is in Inman Park - the place next to the Albert.  I'll continue to go there indefinitely, including tomorrow.  For many reasons - they're friendly and thorough, they respect your time, they speak English, great nail polish selection, massage chairs....

ERD is gross.  They don't sanitize tools between clients, gag.  The place next to The Albert is Inman Park Nails aka Laura's Nails.  They are awesome, friendly and very clean.  If you look them up, look up Inman Park Nails.

I saw a piece about pedicures a while back. Make sure they clean the whole thing. And, instruments are to be clean as well. People will get infections on their feet and legs. Take it from the hospitals where they have the foot pools, they scub them down ever time.

The salon on Boulevard near the Fire Station does a good job, but they aren't staffed to handle more than a few clients at a time.  I've had good results with the Nail Talk and Tan chain and have been to the Midtown (Whole Foods center), Buckhead (near Piedmont Hospital) and Cumberland Mall-area locations.

The unpleasant smell at the ERD salon was overpowering during my only visit there a few years ago.

Wal-Mart, huh?  It is never open when I am there super early to avoid the crowd.  I may give it a try.

even your toenails?    :O<

oh!  and when I went to Jazmin, yeah it did take a long time, but everyone was nice and they have massage chairs.  def not the place to go if you're lookin to be in and out in a jif, but if you have some time to kill and wanna relax, that'll do the  trick.  and if you really wanna amaze a handful of young asian girls, bring something to make.  i brought crocheting and made two potholder/trivets and i was like the neatest thing ever that day  LOL!
