Ponder Wonder gone?
« on: December 23, 2010, 05:54 pm »
Just noticed as I was coming through the village that there is a "For Rent" sign on the door where Ponder Wonder is/was. I assume they have closed up shop, which doesn't surprise me since the place never looked open.

yea, doesn't surprise me AT all, unfortunately. It never looked opened as you have stated, you could never see inside either and they never really let anyone in the neighborhood know what it was nor asked for people to put things in their store on consignment etc.
It's sad to see something try but maybe not hard enough to make it. I have my thoughts about what it really was but I'll refrain from comment.

Good Riddance.  I know this sounds crazy but they had bass thumping music that competed with the music at Mary's and while inside Mary's it was very annoying because the DJ had to blast the music to attempt to override Ponder Wonder......

I never found it open. Not much of a business plan, unless it was a tax dodge for somebody, in which case it seems to have worked.

I peered into the store one weekday around 11 am to see if they were open and noticed that their posted hours were essentially subject to the whim of the shop. It said something to the effect of "We open sometime around 11 or 12" or whenever someone was there. And I NEVER saw them open at all. I walk through the Village on a regular basis during the middle of the day and that's saying something that they were never open.

When they first opened, I stuck my head in.  Sunglasses, chips, candy.  Looked like a little sundry shop.  I am pretty sure they were linked to I lounge.  Might wanna ask those folks.

Yes, I agree, with that I knew someone close that smoked and went to chewing tobacca. Used a spit can which was yuck, and then the door of his car.~Denise

Not including this place, I saw 3 for rent signs in the block between Glenwood and the EARL today. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but we need a landlord who rents to viable businesses, not just taking cash from whoever gets entitlement business grants and has no clue about what might actually be successful in the long term.

The owner of Cake Hag told me she wanted to open her business in EAV.  However, the condition of the buildings along with the owners' refusals to make repairs did not make it a wise business decision for her.

it's a pipe dream, and definitely not ideal, but if he goes long enough with not having tenants in a few spaces, hopefully it creates cash flow issues for him and we see some of the properties sold.  or are most of them paid in full?

With the owners of Grant Central buying that bank building, I wonder if we'll have another opening soon?

I am sure there are plenty of code violations in Abe's buildings. Maybe some tips to COA might get some action.
