I just read through this thread and it was very entertaining.  I love it when Cap'n talks about hippies.

It's Kroger for us.  They mail us so many coupons we can't resist.

And I'm afraid of organic food.  I want my food to have weird chemicals in it.

I love to talk about hippies!

Funny about the chemicals - The Achiever has been buying more things at Trader Joe's of late, and their "good quality" stuff goes bad a lot faster than the chemistry-enhanced stuff from Kroger. Mini-bagels - mold farms. TJ's tortilla chips - stale before the bag is opened ...

That's not to cast TJ's in a negative light - I love a lot of their stuff - but sometimes science is good. Just not in our schools.

Slush carries a lot of what i eat, and for that I was happy, but the prices are way off the charts! Some things there were twice what I would pay if I were to get them from Whole Foods (which charges almost twice what I would pay anywhere else), so I was kinda disappointed.

For example: Outrageous Ginger Brew four-pack--

Sevananda: 3.99 .

Nice-looking Kroger at Edgewood: 4.99.

Slush: 6.75(!!!)

Hummus--
8oz at Trader Joes: 1.79
8oz at Kroger: 2.50
16oz at Whole Foods: 3.00
8oz at Slush: 4.75(!!)

And so on, and add more "!!!"

I did see the sandwich list, and that looked really promising, especially for the decent price they seemed to be. I'll probably be eating a nice lunch there on my occasional early-in-the-day visits to EAV, but I'm afraid I'll have to leave tho$e other product$ alone.

Organic is the way to go. Chemical foods enter your body and it starts mutating your cells. So, I go for the organic stuff. And, cap'ken don't try that radiactive lettuce, it will kill you.

I don't see the point in organic food.  If all those pesticides are going to kill me, let it be done swiftly.  I see no point in prolonging this dark suffering we call life.

I'm not sure, LClayton!...I do know that we use the "Kroger commitment" card or "frequent customer" card (or whatever) each time we make a purchase.  You know, the one they use to steal all of your deepest darkest purchasing secrets?  Every couple weeks or so we get this booklet mailed to us (and we get two, because we're each on their mailing list) and it contains tons of coupons, which appear to be targeted to the stuff we normally buy.  The nice thing is that in addition to regular 50 cent off, $1 off etc coupons, they usually also contain a bunch of FREE coupons, which we always use....Free loaf of bread, free box of cereal, free carton of bottled water, that kind of stuff.  We normally spend about $150/week or so (and that includes things like booze, toiletries and prescriptions) and our coupons typically knock $30 or $40 off our bill each time.

It is awesome.  They've sent quite a few free things in them.  One month it was free coffee!

I haven't gotten coupons from them in ages.  :'(

I am curious Ken, just because someone likes organic products it makes them a hippie? How does that work? I like organic and I wouldn't classify myself as a hippie, am I mistaken? have I been fooling myself all this time? Do I need to go by love beads and scented oils now? Damn it!

You're totally a hippie. In the modern world, being a consumer of predominantly organic products makes you a hippie.
