EAV Hunting Club/Land Lease
« on: January 16, 2012, 12:10 pm »
Anyone in the Village up for a group land lease?  Anyone alreay have one?

I want a place to go hunting, do some long distance riflework, and just escape the city.  Preferably within 1-1/2 hours of the village.  Open to the geographical area but most logical area seems East out I-20.

I used to go with my father and grandfather as a kid outside Sparta, Siloam, Crawfordville, Eatonton, Monticello, etc. and I miss it.

Earlier the better when it comes to getting it organized, planting food plots, setting feeders and so forth.  Would like to find property that could serve deer, dove, hog, and turkey.  Would also be interested in a setting a long rifle range up for target work up to 500+ yards.

Hunted for two years on the land adjacent to the airport in Madison right behind Pennington Seed.  Didn't do well for deer, I think it was too close to town, but we always had good dove.

Would the gun range be used during open season?

Not much has changed near the airport.  It is too close to the historic district, so development will be minimal.

I'm open to the idea of a range being open year round.  And, open to the idea of just a lease for long range shooting.  Actually we have discussed just that, but didn't think there would be enough support for it.  I for one, would love to have a spot to share for extended range.  In fact, there are at least two others I know that would be in for a reasonable price to practice 500m+

I have never hunted, but would love a place to shoot outdoors.  Not sure if I am up for 500+m, but a couple hundred would be awesome.  I was looking at joining that gun club that is in the general area of Madison, but would prefer this I think.

100-200m is fun and basic ballistic drop.  I love plinking at 150 but the real meat of long range starts at 300+.  Something about the applied mathematics and physics appeals to my nerdiness.  I really want to take it to the next level and push the limits.  I would love have a place for 800m, that my friend, is perfection.

I don't hunt, but would be interested in a comparatively nearby lease for shooting. Optimally, I would like something that could accomodate long-range rifle (200+ yards), mid-range rifle (100-200 yards) and pistol. I have seen others with a similar lease find a spot on the land with a good-sized hill and rent a bulldozer for a day to carve out a three-bermed pistol pit -- great for static/target shooting as well as shooting on the move and doing private IDPA-style matches.

By the way, I am a Range Safety Officer which should help with insurance. (Not a huge deal to become one, and if this happened I would suggest others certify as well so there is good coverage.)

I used to have 400+ acres of land in Louisiana and we used to hunt for dove, wild hogs, deer, ducks and geese.  I miss it terribly.

I'd be interested in going in on a hunting lease for a reasonable price.  I'm not so keen at having an "outdoor gun range" at the same location unless it was deemed "off limits" during hunting seasons.

One of my neighbors here on Braeburn Dr shoots outdoors on family land somewhere down south of the metro...I'll see if I can pin him down about particulars...My guy Kevin's family has a ton of land north of Montgomery AL and they're always shooting off guns over there.

Yeah Cat, I think a bunch of gunfire during hunting season would be less than ideal.  400 acres would be about right for several people to hunt without interfering with one another.

If there isn't a lot of support for extreme long range, I think there are several options available such as South River Gun Club.  They have 100yd, 200yd, and 300yd rifle ranges as well as a couple of pits and sporting clays.  May could hit em up for a group rate, but I think yearly dues are only $350 or so...

A hunting lease would vary greatly by the condition of the land, the amount of acreage, amenities, number of members, etc.

Potentially interested in the long distance range.
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity but they've always worked for me.

A few things....

Hunting over a feeder in Ga is still illegal. You can use them, however you have to be a minimum 200yds away from it and it cannot be within direct sight of where you're hunting. Those game wardens can be sneaky.....

Hogs are open season year round |:)|

There's a outdoor firing range in West Ga right off of I-20 that's 45min from the EAV. It's called Advanced Bullets Firing Range... nice people there. The ranges are 15m, 25m, 50m and 100m. There are benches to shoot from and they are covered. $6 per hour.....

I've hunted in Ga all my life. There's not many shots past 100yds hunting deer or hogs in Ga. My longest shot where I hunt these days was 40yds.... Good luck finding land to hunt on. It's getting harder these days :([
