Coach Hunter will be coaching barefoot this Thursday to benefit Samaritan's Feet. The charity gives shoes to impoverished children and thus prevent s childhood diseases that can be contracted through the feet. It's absolutely shocking how many children spend a majority of their early lives without a pair of shoes. The following email was sent out by a Panther Talk member in an attempt to get a sellout at the GSU Sports Arena this Thursday. If you cannot attend you can still buy a child a pair of shoes by donating $10. Thanks All.

Dear Panther Nation and friends of Panther Nation,

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  This isn't spam, a virus or some random email.  When you are finished reading this email, I encourage you to send this to as many people that you know that care about Georgia State University.  This is a appeal for change.  Whether you are an alum, student, faculty member or friend of Georgia State University, this email has found you.  Likely, most of you that read this I have never met.  But, I hope to meet you soon.  I am writing you for two main reasons.  (1) A call for action or a call for change of culture on some fronts and (2) A step towards that change.  First, I would like to talk about change.  GSU is a great University.  Better yet, it is an outstanding University.  However, for many years it has been known as a "commuter" or "transient" school.  Often times it might not have been someone's first choice in schools because of its culture.  This is starting to be the case no longer.  More students are living on campus than ever before.  The diversity of our campus is unrivaled.  Our school is begging for involvement from alumni, students, donors, etc.  THE TIME IS NOW.  THIS IS OUR TIME.  It is time to change our school FOREVER.  How do we do this?  We get involved.  We donate.  We send our kids to school here.  You make your own conclusion on what change means.  Find a way to make this school better.  There are many ways we can do this.  Let's make 2012 the best ever for Georgia State University.

Second, I would like to talk about a way we can take a step together.  This Thursday, our Men's Basketball team 11-4 (3-1 in CAA play) is playing at home in the GSU Sports Arena.  I'm not sure what your calendar has in store for 1/12, but I am pleading for a SOLDOUT crowd.  We have more than 30,000 students and over 100,000 alumni on the books and you cannot convince me of any good reason we can't make this happen.  This may mean that you are attending your first sporting event ever.  I say Awesome.  Or, this may mean your first sporting event in years, or maybe you have attended an event this school year.  Whatever the case, let's do something great.  Our Men's Basketball team has worked very hard in representing our school and have already broken records this year.  They deserve to play in front of a packed house.  It's time as fans we start breaking records.  On top of the basketball game going on, our Head Coach Ron Hunter will be coaching the basketball game barefoot.  This has been his tradition every year in trying to promote Samaritan's Feet.  When you come to the game, please bring a pair of new shoes for a child.  The shoes will be used to give to children in Africa that do not have shoes.  In the history of our basketball program, we have only topped 4,000 in attendance only twice.  I am asking for you to make every effort to be in attendance and try to top 4,000 for the third time.  Tickets for this game are going fast and I would encourage you to get your tickets as soon as possible.  We have already reached many in trying to relay our goal.  I hope that you can make it.  Likely, when our goal is met, some of you may not be able to enter the game  due to it being sold out.  If that is the case, please do not get upset.  Rather, rejoice in the fact that your University just accomplished something great.  Then, find a game on the schedule that you can make and get tickets.  Please find the links below.  Let's start breaking records.  GO PANTHERS.

Again, please forward this email to at least 5-10 people associated with GSU.  We need to take this step together.

I AM ONE.  WE ARE MANY.  TOGETHER WE ARE A NATION OF PANTHERS.
