can't change out of greyscale to print in color!?

ok...SOMEONE *PLEASE* explain to me that even though i have changed my printer settings several times *and* clicked apply, and double checked that it's set to print in color, i cannot get it to STOP PRINTING IN GREYSCALE!?!?! i mean, i print this way for most things to conserve ink, but i'm not an idiot and this SHOULD be working, but it's not. ugh!

i have made the changes several times. checked that they've stuck. still printing in grey!  i'm in a time crunch, so if anyone has an answer for me sooner than later, that would be ideal!  not sure if it matters but i have an HP photosmart all in 1 printer (so duh, you should print in color, you silly thing!)

too many variables to trouble shoot. just keep trying to change settings wherever you can til it works.

Perhaps a setting on the printer itself?  Does the printer think it's out of color ink?

nope.  printer has a nearly full color cartridge, and i can't think of any other settings to check or change that i have any understanding of.  there was some color management thing, but i don't think that it was something to be monkeyed with.  it wasn't the "print in color/print in greyscale/print quality" thing

could it be a setting on the doc instead of the printer?  did you try printing anything else in color to see if the same thing happens?

Are you using a PC or a Mac?  What is the specific model of the printer?

i have changed every setting i can figure to change.  i have changed my overall default setting on the device controller thing.  i have double checked each time i've printed a test sheet that it's on "print in color"  i have now rebooted (and lost all the tabs i was working with, which irks me further!), and that didn't help either. 

i have an HP photosmart c4280 all in one, i have ink in it, i have a nearly full color cartridge in it, there are no color settings to change on the printer itself. i have printed something from "paint" in the color i'm trying to print in, and it is also greyscale. 

i'm *this* close to just saying fuck it and printing in greyscale because i have to get these tags done...  i'm starting to channel the guys from "office space", even though it's not exactly a crappy printer...

Maybe try taking out the black ink cartridge and see what it does.  Might give you an error message that could help explain the issue.  Also...Mac or PC?

In refusing to print, it may give an error message that tells you what's wrong with color.

ok. tried it.  it made printing sounds. printed NOTHING.  i give up.  so much for printing in color and having nicer looking tags.  *sigh*   stupid technology messing with me on the wrong day!  *grumble*

Could take it to the print shop in the village if you really want color.

Printing tags for ICE this weekend?

i *wish* i were doing the ICE show (or any! ever! there's some stiff competition, though!)     this is for a drop-off show at Paideia this weekend (friday night kickoff, sat and most of sunday) and since i'm not handling the sales myself, everything has to be tagged a certain way and inventoried and a whole bunch of happy crappy that is SUPER time consuming.  tagging/inventory is basically the bane of my existence when it comes to my biz.  HATE. IT.

I've seen this before and uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the printer has worked for me. Give that a shot.

thanks.  i'll try that later tonight, b/c now this fucker has thrown down a gauntlet!  but i gotta get this stuff completed in the next hour or so, so i went ahead and printed my tags in black/grey (boring, but whatever.) and i'll mess with it later.

thanks for the help and i'll letcha know if i manage to get it working.  if not tonight, then when i'm back after the weekend.
