Iphone 4s
« on: February 09, 2012, 11:16 pm »
Ok, so I just got one for nothing through a Christmas present/upgrade.  I just activated it today and everyone I talk to says they hear their own voice as an echo.  I did some googling and it sounds common, and the common fix is to turn the volume down.  Well, I don't want to have a phone that I have to turn the volume down so low I can't hear the person I am talking to; so I am thinking of turning it in under the 30 day rule and waiting for the 5.  I guess I want to know if anyone else has had this problem.  Speak English please, this is my first smart phone.

My boss just got one through Sprint and I have this issue with her on a regular basis. Sorry, I don't have a fix for it, though.

Are you still making most of your calls from a bathroom stall?

We have 4s phones on Sprint; never had or heard of this issue. I used to have a similar-sounding kind of thing on AT&T with an older iPhone, but I'd assumed it was some network issue, not a hardware one.

Are you holding the phone up to your ear, or are you using the Apple headphones/mic or a bluetooth headset?

No issues like that with our iPhone 4s through AT&T.  Phone coverage in EAV is still spotty.  Customer support encouraged anyone having similar service issues to call to report dropped calls or single bar weak service.

Do you have a signal booster/femtocell?  Does it happen only in certain places?

Reason I ask is my wife has a 4S on Sprint and does have this issue, but she also had the same problem with her previous phone (a "dumbphone").  It only happens when she is at home, so we chalk it up to our Airave device (the Sprint femtocell).
I rarely talk on my phone when I'm at home, so I can't really say whether it happens on my Nexus S.

(FYI - if you're with Sprint, they reduced their 30 day return policy to 14 days.)

My dropped calls/low signal are at home (generally fine if I step outside), in the village, in ERD, and in certain areas of Decatur.  I don't have a signal booster.

Thanks folks.  I am with Verizon and have good reception in the Village.  It is happening everywhere, so it is not that.  It is happening when I am talking on it with it up to my ear.  I think I am taking it back.

Same phone. No problems. Try to exchange first and see if you have better results. As many of these as I have worked on, I have not heard of this issue.
