Sprint, Verizon coverage in EAV?
« on: September 12, 2011, 04:36 pm »
Assuming the reports are correct that Sprint will carry the new iPhone due out next month, we'll have a choice to make when we upgrade/switch from AT&T (staying with AT&T is not a choice I'm even contemplating given I can't get signals most anyplace in the neighborhood and it's just getting worse).

So Verizon and Sprint customers - what's been your experience with coverage in the neighborhood? Can you actually get a signal inside of buildings in the Village? Reliable coverage around Brownwood Park? Ever been to my house and if so did you have a signal?

Agreed that the local AT&T service keeps going downhill.  It's pathetic. I have a single bar at my house right now.

Only thing making it tolerable these days is that more and more of the Village businesses are offering free WiFi.

It's unfuckingbelievable that it just gets worse and worse. I got a "no service" status at Brownwood today and the same thing at Morelli's on Saturday. I've never had a problem getting a signal at Morelli's (though never a great one).

It's worse by the day, it seems. Can't wait to say bye-bye to them.

It seems to vary by phone as well.  Clue and I actually both have Blackberries, but two different models.  He has terrible coverage inside our house, whereas I can sit on the couch and chat no problem.  Coverage is not great for me inside buildings in the the village as well.  I don't recall what my coverage is at your house, but we could stop by sometime and take a look if you like.  We're on Sprint.  I am intrigued by the coming of the Iphone although it will mean the addition of the $10 premium data plan for me that I don't currently have.

I like Sprint, and have great coverage at home and pretty good coverage throughout the village. You can do some in-person testing next time I'm over there.

Remains to be seen if their network will hold up as it gets crushed by new iPhone users. But their customer service and service service has been great so far from my perspective.

I have Verizon.  I have good coverage all through the village.  Can't complain.

Yeah, the relatively smallness of Sprint's infrastructure (next to the relative hugeness of Verizon's) is a concern as they on-board iPhone users. But when you're an AT&T customer around here, that's really a secondary concern when your goal is to actually have any sort of connectivity whatsoever.

Before I switched to AT&T I had Sprint and I had service absolutely everywhere I went in and around the village.  I don't remember ever getting a dropped call in the greater ATL even.

Likewise.
And you're on the money in being worried about Sprint's capacity as they bring on a flood of new users.

Can it be, dear Verizon users, that you can actually use your devices indoors at Village establishments without having to find a WiFi connection?

I was always very happy with Verizon everywhere... AT&T, not really. My contract with AT&T expires this year, and I'll probably switch back to Verizon when I'm ready for my next iPhone.

Yes, I have actually talked on the phone while sitting at the Flat Iron bar.  I consider being on the phone while at a bar to be be a character flaw, but it is nice to have the capability.

Oh hell yeah!  The other day, my sister called spouting some bullshit about Christians being persecuted in Egypt that her minister told her *rolls eyes*, and I sat at the bar at FI with Sassy and told her off.
