I ran into one of the former employees of Ace, now working at Lowe's, and he was telling me that shoplifting was one thing that really killed them, as well as Jason's indifference after the woodworking thing didn't pan out. He said that they had never had record of selling any sawzall blades, but they were continually ordering them. Another thing that he mentioned were the sockets...people would either steal them or buy them, use them and return them. I'm sure there were other things, too, but apparently shoplifting was a HUGE problem there.

I can only imagine. I remember FL talking a while back about kids coming in to steal spray paint to presumeably go tagging up the neighborhood. PEOPLE SUCK! I really miss Ace.

Yeah, I miss it too. We went in every week or two, for odds and ends.  Often ended up buying things we didn't know we needed.
