Our life goal (within five years) is a house in Nicaragua. I want a courtyard and warmth. I've never had a problem driving north or south in Costa Rica, or driving down to Nicaragua, but again, you have to pick a good car because most of the roads suck. Don't be afraid to drive. It makes the trip a joy.

A friend of a friend in Austin lives most of the year in Nicaragua. Her husband builds houses there. Let me know when you begin shopping and I'll get you their info.

That is Plan B, if Costa Rica gets too expensive/crowded. But, fuck a bunch of Nicaraguan government, seriously. Not sure I trust property rights for gringos to be worth a hill of beans from one to the next.

Yeah, the "Nice Sandinistas" are currently in control, so sayeth the propaganda machine that is the government.  That's the risk, but when the houses can be $10,000 USD, it's a risk we're considering, particularly in the southern regions. That and a faux Sandinistan purchaser of course. Ashlita Stanlino, LP will be buying the house, rest assured.

THIS.  I have driven through every Central American country except Salvador, and only skipped that as they were busy shooting each other.  Costa Rica is EASY with a 4 wheel drive and doable if you are a decent driver with a beater and have some common sense... having said that, I have been to CR a few times and didnt feel the need to have a car, as buses/short flights to fun places and cabs are available... negotiate your price up front and if you need to, have them write the price down BEFORE you GET IN if you are not sure of your numbers... trust me, this will save you a shit ton of annoyance/$$$.

Corcovado National Park was amazing if tough to get to... tons of animals however, but primitive digs to stay in, plenty of small places right on the beach to stay in at decent prices... you will have a blast.

So we got our tickets and we have the spot booked for the volcano part of the trip.  Check out how adorable it is!  100 bucks a night!  No a/c but its so cute!

We are planning 5 days in beach world, a day to wander between and then 2 days in volcano land and then a night in san jose.
Yes, I agree, with that I knew someone close that smoked and went to chewing tobacca. Used a spit can which was yuck, and then the door of his car.~Denise

Anyone ever tour a coffee plantation? We're debating it.

Do you remember which one?  There are many with such varying prices.

Hmm, it was northeast of San Jose on the way to one of the volcanoes. Michael may remember.

We toured a small coffee plantation halfway up a volcano on Lake Nicaragua. It was awesome. It was very cool seeing how such a complex process was all done by hand with such basic tools. The coffee kicked ass too!

Still here in costa rica!  We have had a wonderful time!  We went to the west coast at St. Teresa for 4 nights ' with a stop at puntarenas on the way so we didnt have to drive at night.  Puntareynas is a shithole.  Seriously.  Skip it.  The only reason for it to exist is the Ferry.  We stayed at a placed called the Zula Aparthotel in Santa Teresa and it was AWESOME! We did a zipline tour over a waterfall and I didn{t pee my pants or die so that was good.  way too much driving around that part to get to anything.
Next we went to fortuna by Arenal volcano.  We rented the tiny red house on vrbo and it too was a gem!  It is hot and muggy during the day but cool and wonderful at night.  I never puked but those mtn roads make me want to die.  I hate them.
Last night we were in downtown San Jose.  Its not bad but it is isn{t great.

PS' the computers here are weird.  To get the @ symbol you have to type cntrol alt Q.  I cant figure out how to get a question mark.  the shift key gives you none of the symbols above the numbers.  Weird.

Has anyone found any dogs while i was gone and what did they name them_
