If you call an event designed to train the most efficient methods and standards to help people in need get their lives back in order, for people willing to spend extended periods of time away from their homes and families scummy, I guess.

Once again my attempts at humor fail to translate online. Alas.

I do enjoy the conference though.  There's a lot of technological advances happening in the field.  I'll be brushing up PB the latest in GeoEstimatimg and tablet applications at this event.  It's also about the only place O run into friends in the field.

No worries.  It's important to me, there's a huge stigma that being able to dispel is part of what makes the job so enjoyable.

Nashville was pretty great!  I was surprised to see such a vibrant downtown area in a large southern city!

Even though the conference was very focused and time-consuming (and awesome!), we were located on Nashville's Broadway, and with a couple of long lunches and one big night out with the convention-goers I got to explore that area thoroughly!  I will highly recommend The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum which exceeded my expectations and succeeded in filling me with an enormous sense of pride and amazement.  The current Chet Atkins exhibit itself is worth the price of admission!

The only bogus destination I visited was The Gaylord Opryland Hotel, which I got hornswoggled into visiting by another adjuster who had once stayed there and wanted to show off, I guess.  On the way in, the $18 + tax parking fee let me know what kind of night I was in for . . . lush indoor gardens and waterfalls didn't really impress as I sipped on $6 Bud Lights.  The electronics vending machine was actually the most interesting thing I saw there.

Otherwise, I got to burn my gut out at Prince's Hot Chicken, catch a great garage punk show at a (not really a venue) tiny diner where I unexpectedly ran into some Memphis friends(!), visited Third Man Records, and have a fun time amongst the picker tourists at Antique Archeology!

Thanks for all the recommendations friends, and if you haven't already noticed, Facebook tells the story . . .

Hey, sounds like you had a great time! I stayed at the Opryland a few years ago, so I know just what you're talking about.

We had a blast as well. Checked out a Swedish stoner rock band at Exit/In near Vanderbilt, saw a fantastic hockey game (the Predators really put the Thrashers to shame) and froze our butts off on Broadway. The Union Station Hotel was excellent. Great food, great service. The only drawback was that our room was right next to the tracks, so it shook every time a freight train rumbled past.

Did you notice just how many Cracker Barrels are along 75/24 between here and Nashville? Holy cats.

Cool!  Looks like a nice stay at Union Station.  I prefer the po-dunk, esp. when traveling alone, so I lodged at the Knight's Inn, which was incredibly clean, despite it's highway off-ramp locale, and very convenient to downtown.  Very colorful restaurant/bar attached too!

Re: Cracker Barrels, I didn't notice, but I drove up in the dark Tuesday morning and back in light rain and heavy fog Saturday afternoon.

I second that; The Knight's Inn is a great deal and location.  Can't walk anywhere, but it's super close to downtown.

Yep.  Factor in $8 each day to park in the Convention Center garage and it was still under $60 per night.  I don't know how long ago you were there, but I assume from the large change in attitudes on their Yelp page that they had a renovation and possible change of ownership towards the end of last year.  I was still compelled to pull my ignition cable when I left my Jeep every night, but I always do that when I'm staying out of town.  Once I was in my room I was snug and happy.

It was last summer.  The types of rough edges it had were perfectly acceptable to me for $40/night.
